"Shivaker" is now a full-fledged Pinoy

"Well, it's mixed emotions. I'm actually very happy about it kasi I've been working on it for a very long time. But to actually be there and take the oath, kakaiba din yung feeling, I was very happy. But at the same time, kahit paano nakakalungkot din ng konti na you're giving up your Indian roots," says Sam YG about giving up his Indian nationality to become a Filipino citizen.

Dumating din during the interview ang kanyang rumored girlfriend na si Daiana Menezes to give him support.

"I applied for the citizenship a long time ago, three years ago. At that time, hindi ko pa siya kilala. Napapanood ko pa lang siya atsaka I only see her in my dreams," biro ni Sam.

"I did," sagot niya. Hinahanap nga siya nung mga tao sa Office of the Solicitor General."

MIXED EMOTIONS. During the oath-taking, ano ang naramdaman ni Sam YG?

"Well, it's mixed emotions. I'm actually very happy about it kasi I've been working on it for a very long time. But to actually be there and take the oath, kakaiba din yung feeling, I was very happy. But at the same time, kahit paano nakakalungkot din ng konti na you're giving up your Indian roots. Pero it's still there naman. There's a part in the oath that says na manunumpa ka sa Pilipinas. But there is also part in the oath na parang you're withdrawing all your support or something like that to India or being an Indian national."

"Oo, kasi yun ang roots ko, e, and you can't change that. That's me," sabi niya. "But if there's any consolation, parang you get to have the best of both worlds. Yun nga, Filipino citizen of Indian descent. So, for me, parang happy pa rin ako."

Bakit pinili niyang maging Pinoy?

Kaso, hindi lahat ng nationality puwedeng mag-dual, like if you're American citizen puwede kang mag-dual, Filipino-American at the same time. Pero in the case of Indian citizen, you have to choose whether you're Indian, Filipino or foreign. You really have to give up the other citizenship.

"I chose to be Filipino kasi I was based here. I was born here, dito na ako lumaki. Dito na ako nag-aral. Dito na rin ako nagtatrabaho ngayon. So, if you're gonna open a business or something like that, it's better to have a Filipino citizenship. If you want to own a business or a big percentage of it... Kasi if you're a foreigner, you can only own a certain percentage.

DAIANA'S SIX-YEAR CONDITION.

"Oo. Right now, nag-e-enjoy naman kami. We're happy with whatever relationship we have right now. And yun ang importante. We both understand na we have to work. And that's our focus right now," sabi ni Sam YG.

Totoo ba talaga yung six-years condition na 'yan?

"Napag-usapan nga namin 'yan na parang in six years, gusto niyang mag-settle down siya. I mean, right now, importante sa kanya yung career. There's still a lot to do. There's still a lot to build. I guess both of us, we still have a lot to learn. Nag-uumpisa pa lang kami, pero sobra kaming thankful, like especially kina Tita Malou [Choa-Fagar] for helping us in showbiz. We're super thankful but we still have a lot to prove. With everything that we are blessed with, we have a lot of responsibilites right now. We're really focused in what we're doing. Yeah, six years is six years."

After six years, what's next?

"Babe" ang term of endearment nila.
