New Wowowee host Kelly Misa gives acting a shot in Elias Paniki

"I hope na gumaling ako in both fields. Alam ko medyo mahirap 'yon kasi kapag host, host ka lang, kapag acting... Sana po magawa ko 'yon pareho," showbiz newbie Kelly Misa said about her newfound career.

Barely a month after Wowowee introduced ramp model Kelly Misa as one of its four new co-hosts, she's now making an acting debut via ABS-CBN's Agimat: Ang mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla Presents Elias Paniki.

The 27-year-old showbiz newbie took a short break from her hosting duties to attend her press conference held yesterday, May 12, at the 9501 Restaurant inside the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.

Kelly's preamble was a short background about herself, and her reason for joining show business.

She said, "I have been modeling for a long time since 2001. After that, I decided to get into writing. So, mga two years, nagsusulat ako para sa Philippine Daily Inquirer as a beauty columnist. From there, parang na-realize ko na parang kulang pa rin and showbiz na. Tinawag talaga ako ng showbiz."

As a host, Kelly says she's still in the learning stage.

"One month pa lang ako since I started in Wowowee. But I'm learning a lot," she said. "I'm learning from Ate Pokwang, Mariel [Rodriguez], Valerie [Concepcion], and RR [Enriquez]. Of course, kasama ko sina Carmen [Soo], Jed [Montero], and Isabel [Abiera]. We're learning a lot from each other and [I'm getting] more from them. Nakaka-adjust naman ako from hosting. But with acting, ayun, natututo naman ako with my co-actors. I think I'm getting there."

She also thanked her friends in showbiz, like fashion stylist and editor Liz Uy and Kapamilya actress Anne Curtis, for helping her adjust to her new environment.

Kelly said, "They're very supportive. Like Liz, from the start, talagang binibihisan niya ako. Ano lang, friendship lang, walang [fee]. They're really supportive and natutuwa naman sila with how I'm starting."

Since she's been with Wowowee for more than a month, a reporter asked her about controversial host Willie Revillame. He filed an indefinite leave after announcing his rift with Showbiz Mismo radio host Jobert Sucaldito. (CLICK HERE to read related article)

"Actually, hinahanap nga namin siya every day," said Kelly. "Parang kulang nga po 'yong show kapag wala siya. Of course, Wowowee is Willie Revillame."

Does she have an idea when Willie is coming back to the show?

Kelly's response: "He's taking a vacation, nagpapahinga lang. We really don't know. We expect him back any day. We're just waiting lang."

GIVING ACTING A SHOT. Her first acting assignment is to play one of Jake Cuenca's leading ladies in the fourth chapter of Agimat.

"This is my first acting job. Sa workshop pa lang, napaka-intense si Jake, talagang focused and determined. Grabe 'yong acting skills niya. Parang you need to keep up sa level niya, ibang klase siya, e. Kaya parang double-time talaga," she related.

She added that after her first acting experience, she was motivated to do better in their succeeding taping days. Kelly recalled, "For me, I felt it na I really have to learn, I really have to be better. Siyempre naman, parang natatabunan."

And her goal: "I hope na gumaling ako in both fields. Alam ko medyo mahirap 'yon kasi kapag host, host ka lang, kapag acting... Sana po magawa ko 'yon pareho."
