Last Saturday, July 10, seemed like fans' day for Carla Abellana and Geoff Eigenmann when they both attended the gala night of the Cinemalaya entry Sigwa at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Geoff and Carla often put their arms around each other as they posed with fans who asked to have their photos taken with their idols.

When PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Carla how she liked the film, she said, "Ang nagustuhan ko dun, paganda nang paganda ang pelikula. Every scene had something very interesting, and from start to finish paganda nang paganda at ang daming twists."

Sigwa (international title: Rage) tackles the intertwining lives of activists who lived during the First Quarter Storm of 1970. In the film, Dolly (Megan Young) leaves her daughter to the care of her fellow activist Azon (Lovi Poe).

Thirty-five years later, Dolly (Dawn Zulueta) returns to the Philippines to look for Azon and her daughter.

Directed by Joel Lamangan, the Cinemalaya entry Sigwa is being screened at the CCP until July 17. (CLICK HERE for the schedules of films.)

Was Geoff the one who invited Carla to watch Sigwa? Gina Alajar, the mother of Geoff, plays the older Azon.

Pakiusap niya sa amin that we see his indie film for Cinemalaya."

BIG-SCREEN DEBUT. Is she open to appearing in an indie film? "Siguro 'wag muna ngayon kasi wala pa akong mainstream na pelikula."

The GMA-7 actress said that she is excited to appear on the big screen when she joins the cast of the upcoming movie Mamarazzi. "Magkakaroon na ako ng movie this year. It's by Direk Joel and it will come out next month. Si Sweet [John Lapus] and Eugene Domingo ang bida. Ang role ko dun si Mimi, ang pamangkin ni Sweet na aspiring actress."

For now, Carla is happy that Basahang Ginto, her current afternoon soap opera at GMA-7, is doing well. "Masaya kami that we're number one in the afternoon slot. Every taping day, inspired talaga kami na magtrabaho nang maigi. Hindi namin iniisip ang hirap. Iniisip namin na worth it talaga kasi maraming natutuwa."

Based on the AGB Nielsen survey of Mega Manila households, Basahang Ginto was the leading show in the daytime slot last Monday, July 5. It dropped to second place when Eat Bulaga! took over the top slot last July 6 and July 7.

ONGOING COURTSHIP. How would Carla describe her relationship now with her Basahang Ginto leading man Geoff?

"Ganun pa rin, nanliligaw pa rin siya. Hindi ko pa rin siya sinasagot kasi hindi namin masyado pinag-uusapan. We are both busy with work now so pag nasa taping kami, we don't talk about it. Ayoko muna isipin," said Carla.

How is her relationship with Geoff's mother, Gina Alajar? "Okay kami ni Tita Gina. She's really good to me, she's really nice to me and I support her in everything. Especially this indie film, isa na naman sa napakadaming nagawang pelikula niya. I congratulate her for a job well done."

Has she visited their home? "Hindi naman masyado but if there are parties, dun ako nai-invite... pag may gathering or may celebration."
