Top ASEAN band finalist Pancake 80 is all set to give their "best performance" tonight

Pancake 80 will go head to head with Thailand's Sixty-Nine, Indonesia's Golden Dragon, and a wildcard band in vying for the Top ASEAN band title and winning the 50,000 ringgit recording and distribution deal.

Members of the group are: (from left) Richard Navarrete on bass, Ruth Lagamson on vocals, Franz Madriaga on guitar, Flecher Hernandez on drums, Rusty Balanquid on guitars, and Chris Maliwat on vocals.

It's the big day for the Top 3 Finalists of redAMP's Are You ASEAN's Best Band, which is hosted by Air Asia.

The venue—Plaza Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—is all set. The judges and press people, including PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), from various ASEAN countries have arrived. The main and guest performers are more than ready.

Our very own Pancake 80, which made it to the Top 3, is "happy and excited." It's their first major gig, after all, and the fact that their audience will be coming from the various regions of Southeast Asia gives them such a thrill.

For almost a week, the Pinoy bet—together with the two other contenders, Thailand's Sixty-Nine and Indonesia's Golden Dragon—have been rehearsing with chief judge Roslan Aziz, a prominent music producer-engineer in Malaysia.

Later, at around 9:00 p.m., the winner will be announced by hosts MTV VJ Utt and 8TV Quickie's (Malaysian Urban TV online portal) Belinda Chee.

Chris Maliwat, Pancake's vocals, is very hopeful that the group will have a "good chance of winning."

In a text message, he said, "We will be giving our best performance tonight. To all our friends, kababayans, thanks for the support. With God's grace, we will win in this [contest] for our country."

Let's wish all of them good luck. Stay tuned for updates!
