Singer Lance Raymundo is getting ready for a stable acting career on TV and central to his plan is maintaining a buff physique.
Lance talked to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on September 16 at Peppermill Private Dining in Greenhills, San Juan at the launch of Vigen Body Care slimming spa which he endorses.
Lance said he decided to slim down after he started working with his new manager Ricky Gallardo, whose stable of talents include Angel Aquino, Sid Lucero, and Eula Valdes.
His former manager, Angie Magbanua, passed away two years ago.
"Tamang-tama, I signed up with a new manager who wants to market me sa TV, sa mga teleserye," he said.
"So I was thinking... parang gusto kong pumasok sa mainstream. So I should look good. Of course, every aspiring TV actor wants to get the best parts. To do this, he should have a combination of talent, physicality, everything."
So Lance decided to join a slimming program.
"Tapos naging ganyan nga yung resulta. Tamang-tama, naghahanap pala ng endorser yung spa," he said.
One look at his new and improved physique and he's now an endorser of Vigen Body Care.
Although he could still land TV roles with his old body, Lance said they were not the best roles. In 2008, he was cast as the villain in ABS-CBN's Pieta, his first TV soap.
"So I didn't really have to look like a leading man," he said.
"In fact, pinapangit ako doon, e. Pinakalbo ako, tapos naka-fake tan ako, iniba yung hitsura ko. I don't want to be typecast as the villain for life. I want to have romantic roles naman. Hence, the transformation."
NEW MANAGER. Lance said he's happy with his new manager, whom he met just a few months ago. A week after he agreed to work with Ricky, he landed a role in Mario O'Hara's indie film, Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio.
He explained, "I met with Ricky a few days before Bonifacio started. After we came to an agreement, na-book na niya ako sa Paglilitis. It was my first audition and I got it. Now I think pinipila niya ako sa mga TV shows. Let's just wait na lang."
Waiting for a good role, Lance said, requires patience.
"I can probably get a role tomorrow, if I want one. Pero, it's not gonna be the best role. So I would rather wait. Hindi yung basta-basta kumukuha na lang ng role. So yun, I learned to be patient and weed out projects na hindi ako bagay," he said.
Lance, meanwhile, is busy with personal improvement.
"It's exciting. While waiting, I'm preparing myself physically and in other aspects [including] yung Tagalog ko.
"I mean dito ako pinanganak, but I kinda grew up in a Fil-Am environment. In my earlier projects medyo halata na nag-struggle ako sa Filipino. Si Ricky, tinutulungan ako mahasa yung Tagalog ko.
"Pinag-aaralan ko rin yung mga luma kong pelikula. I watch Pieta. I have copies of the series and some of my movies. As much as possible, yung mga natapos kong indies humihingi ako ng copy sa producer so I can watch and learn from them," he said.
