Early this evening, October 20, Kris Aquino talked to the press at an event for Goldilocks, a bakeshop she endorses, at Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City. The TV host and actress talked about her new movie Dalaw, her ongoing separation with James Yap, and how she takes care of her children Joshua, 15, and Baby James, 3.
Kris said she's currently busy shooting Dalaw, Star Cinema's entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. She excitedly told the press about the wedding scene she recently shot with screen partner Diether Ocampo.
She said it took 15 hours just to shoot the wedding scene, which featured a kiss between her and Diether.
"Alam mo kasi, when you're doing a movie, marami talagang anggulo," she said. "It's not like naman pinarami lang ang take. Five angles, eight times, okay? Pero, ang sinabi ko naman dun is, wala naman atang kinasal na sa cheek hinalikan. Kasi, di ba, dapat mo naman iparamdam talaga na nagmamahalan kayo?"
Kris said the kissing scene, her first in the movies after several years, will not cause scandal.
"I have the luxury of not being in a relationship right now, and Diet also is not in a relationship, so wala kaming iniilagan, wala kaming kinakatakutan na baka may magalit sa amin.
Kris thinks her sisters understand the context of the kissing scene.
"Sinabi lang na, bakit paulit-ulit? Yun lang. Wala! I mean, parang ano, siguro naman at this point at this time, mga kapatid ko naman nauunawaan nila na I have not done a film in four years," she said.
Besides, Kris said the kiss is needed because "ayaw namin na malugi ang movie. Gusto naming maging makatotohanan yung istorya talaga."
Kris, who's currently pushing for the nullity of her marriage with basketball star James Yap, told the press the movie makes her feel "very positive." This is why she has full energy.
"Siguro kasi, ano talaga, hinahanap ng katawan ko ang trabaho. So on a high ako," she said. "Eto ang nakakatawa. Yung PSG [Presidential Security Group] na nagbabantay sa akin, they take 24 hours shift. Hindi nila kaya araw-araw. E ako, sabi ko, kayang-kaya ko araw-araw at ine-enjoy ko naman. Like, yung kasama ko ngayon, wala sila kahapon. Kasi nga, siguro feeling nila, two minutes lang 'to mapapanood sa screen. Ganito katagal ba sinu-shoot?"
WISH FOR NEXT RELATIONSHIP. According to Kris, she does not engage in any social life nowadays because "wala pang nagkakalakas ng loob."
"Alam naman ng lahat na under process ang annulment ko," she explained. "Siguro, ayoko rin naman na may gawin ako na mapatagal pa or mapahirapan ang sitwasyon."
She also revealed what she's praying for now regarding her next relationship.
"Actually, all I want is somebody to watch a movie with once a week or once every two weeks, somebody to eat out with once every ten days. Talagang naka-specify na ganun. Siguro isang tao nakakamustahin ako sa umaga at kakamustahin ako sa gabi. Yun na 'yon. So siguro yung sa punto ng buhay ngayon, hanggang dun lang talaga ang pinagdarasal ko," she revealed.
Kris said she wants James Yap to understand that she only wants happiness for both of them.
"Ang last na pag-uusap namin na harapan kami, alam naming dalawa na gusto naming magkaroon ng masayang buhay pagkatapos ng chapter na 'to. So, siguro iisa yung wish naming dalawa na he'll have his happiness, I'll have mine," she said.
This is why she is asking James not to prolong the process for the nullity of their marriage.
"That can only happen, I think, if we don't make it more difficult for each other and specially for our son," she said.
BABY JAMES BLUES. Kris narrated to the press incidents when her son with James Yap, Baby James, got affected by the separation process.
"I always tell my son na, 'You know, you can love your dad, and you can like him, and it doesn't mean na you don't love Mama.' Kasi ayoko talagang ma-confuse. Kasi minsan, merong ganun talaga. Siyempre, hindi mo maalis na 24/7 ako yung nakakasama. Sa akin siya nakatira. Bukod sa nagdi-disiplina, ako rin yung nag-i-spoil. So iba yung closeness. And generally, I think, sons really bond with their mom very much.
"Eto, nag-drama siya nung the other night, na kasi buong gabi ako nag-shoot, di ba? So, sinabi daw niya sa yaya niya, 'I have no Papa, I have no Mama. I only have Kuya. I don't have family na.' Ganun daw! Sabi ko, very teleserye, di ba?
"So, sinabi ko sa kanya, 'Honey, you have your Papa and you have Mama, but Mama has to work. But this will end. So November, tapos na 'to. Christmas, happy na tayo.' Yung ganun. So parati kong nire-reassure na hindi man kami magkasama, meron siyang pamilya..."
Kris said she does not feel guilty for what Baby James is experiencing.
"No. Hindi, hindi ako nagi-guilty kasi alam kong mabuting ina ako. At alam ko naman na maganda yung pag-e-explain ko sa kanya. Magi-guilty siguro ako kung nasa casino ako gabi-gabi, kung nasa Republiq ako, and ano, di ba. Hindi ko ginagawa 'yan. Nagtatrabaho lang ako," she said.
Neither does she feel bad about her present situation.
"No, not at all. Because I'm at a much better place because I'm much more mature. Siguro kasi mas willing ako na to talk to my son as I would talk to my adult," she said.
ON CRITICISM. Kris also believes reported criticisms from James's lawyer Lorna Kapunan on how she takes care of her children are misplaced.
"You know, 'eto lang ang sasabihin ko sa kanya. I understand that she's the lawyer of James. But she has only known James three months. Di ba? And my children have been with me 15 years and three and a half years, so I don't think she should be the one telling me how to mother my children.
"I understand where she's coming from because hindi naman ako ang nagpapasuweldo sa kanya, si James. So kung tanungin niyo naman yung mga abugado ko, sigurado sasabihin ng mga abugado ko, sana huwag na masyadong pahirapan ang kliyente namin para hindi na sila nagkakasakit. So, alam ko kung paano ibalanse lahat yun," she said.
