He has a possible movie project with one of ABS-CBN's biggest stars and an upcoming television series with one of GMA-7's most valued talents—yet Dingdong Dantes carries on very calmly.
Even when PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) brings up the issue of a bar fight reportedly involving him—and which supposedly took place on Roces Avenue in mid-September—his calm reaction is, "Not true."
Then, still with no agitation in his voice, he dares his detractors to show proof.
"Ako, I can say in front of everybody na walang katotohanan ni isang kusing... And they can even verify that. If they do, I hope that they will support it with facts that they can show, at mapatunayan nila na talagang yung mga detalyeng sinabi nila ay nandiyan, dahil sigurado akong mapapahiya talaga sila," the 30-year-old actor says.
The Kapuso leading man even says it's pointless to pin down the people who started the "imbento" bar fight.
Dong, as Dingdong is often called, adds, "Yung reason behind it, yun ang hindi ko alam because, ako, I make sure I don't get myself into unnecessary things like that."
He also says, "Wala rin akong kaaway, so I see no reason for it to happen."
But that's water under the bridge now, he says, and he just wants to forget it. Instead, he wants to focus on the positive things happening to his 12-year-old showbiz career.
TV SERIES WITH REGINE VELASQUEZ. His next television project is I Heart You, Pare, where he will be paired with Regine Velasquez.
It's the first television project of Dingdong with Asia's Songbird, but not his first time to work with her. It's the second. Their first project together was Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka, a movie released in 2003.
When asked about his dramedy series, he answers, "Naka-disguise ako rito, and yung character ko ang tutulong kay Ate Reg. Magsisimula na kami. Ayun, pinaghahandaan na namin."
And when asked if he has a say in choosing his next screen partner, he says, "Alam mo, iniiwan ko talaga ang desisyong iyan sa network parati. Ayokong nakikialam ako sa mga ganung desisyon dahil I know that they always think what's best for me."
Luckily for him, his team-up with other Kapuso actresses have earned the nod of viewers. Case in point, his experimental tandem with Rhian Ramos in Stairway to Heaven reaped positive reviews and figures in the ratings game.
MOVIE PROJECT WITH KRIS AQUINO. The next move for him is a possible project with Kris Aquino, who let the cat out of the bag last October 20, during the press conference of Goldilocks, a food chain which the two stars endorse.
The press conference was held at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, where PEP's interview with Dingdong also took place.
For his part, Dingdong says he wants to make sure the movie is actually going to happen for them before he gets too excited.
"We've been having talks about it. But, siyempre, hangga't kasi hindi sigurado, e, kahit ako mismo, ayoko rin talagang anuhin masyado, di ba?
"Gaya ngayon nga, sabi niya [Kris] magkakaroon pa raw ng official announcement kung papayagan siya makagawa outside ABS-CBN.
"So, until nun, unless talagang may kasiguraduhan na, siguro that's time na gagawin na yung istorya...Like what she said, hindi pa naman kami nasasabihan talaga."
But if the movie does push, he says that a "suspense horror that is modern" would be the best film storyline for them.
How about a love story?
He answers, "It's up to the film outfit na lang. Kumbaga, yung tiwala namin sa kanila, kung ano yung mas babagay sa amin, di ba?
"Sa amin na rin, yung personal input namin, kung tingin ba nila, e, maganda para sa amin ang istorya, yun lang naman...Gano'n lang kasimple."
But whatever type of project he does with Kris, Dingdong says, "I honestly believe that it will be so much fun!"
Lastly, PEP asks him if Marian Rivera, his girlfriend and GMA-7's top leading lady, affects his decisions in accepting a project. Does he consult her?
"Kakatuwa nga because we don't really consult each other. Siguro, it is probably what brought us together—it is yung mindset that we think alike when it comes to what we can do, what we should do, so we don't even have to talk about it.
"Alam namin kung hanggang saan yung limitasyon, kung ano yung dapat na gawin. Hindi lang dahil we are in a relationship, but also because that's how we project ourselves siguro in the long run, career-wise, lahat ng gusto naming gawin."
