John Lloyd Cruz believes real-life romance is not necessary for an onscreen tandem to click

"Sana ito ang mag-set [ng standard], na hindi kailangan ang tandem na magligawan, dapat iligaw n'yo ang utak ng mga fans. Ang sarap isipin na nagma-mature na ang audience," says John Lloyd Cruz about the warm reception from fans during the premiere of My Amnesia Girl, his first movie with Toni Gonzaga. (

"Ito ang pinakamabilis na humingi sila ng Part 2. Closing credits pa lang, sumisigaw na ang tao ng Part 2," said John Lloyd Cruz about his first movie project with Toni Gonzaga titled My Amnesia Girl.

This Star Cinema film had its premiere last night, November 23, at SM Megamall. (CLICK HERE to watch an interview with John Lloyd and Toni during the premiere night)

"Hindi ko ma-predict until tumakbo na yung pelikula at nagre-react na ang audience consistently. Sobrang overwhelming ang feeling," added the three-time Box-Office King.

COMEDIAN. Through this film, the Kanto Boys member was able to showcase his comedic skills to the hilt.

Toni, who was beside John Lloyd at the time of the interview, spoke up and insisted, "Komedyante ka talaga!"

John Lloyd then gave credit to the film's screenplay writers—Carmi Raymundo, Jade Castro and Miguel Sevilla—for coming up with a script with witty dialogue.

"Malaking factor rin ang script, ang lines, yung istorya, lahat-lahat. Kasi hindi ko naman magagawa yun kung walang matinong script, di ba? Mahirap magpatawa kung wala kang hawak na magandang linya," he said.

TOPLESS SCENE. In one scene of the movie, his character named, Apollo, bared his upper torso for a pictorial with male models.

He says of this scene, "Kumbaga, sa istorya, sa character, ganun yung katawan niya [his character], hindi naman masagwa, hindi naman pangit. Nagkataon lang na naitabi sa mga models. Pero sa totoo lang, okay naman siya."

John Lloyd was also shown onscreen wearing boxer shorts as he played around with Irene, Toni's character.

JOHN LLOYD'S EX-GIRLFRIEND. In the early part of the film, John Lloyd had a brief scene with Kaye Abad, his ex-girlfriend when they were still part of ABS-CBN's teen-oriented show Tabing Ilog.

"Kami ni Kaye, parang may pagka-surreal, kasi the last time na nagkasama kami sa harap ng camera, sa Tabing Ilog pa. That was so many years ago. Sobrang tagal na nun," he said.

"Sa lahat ng nag-cameo, sa lahat ng nagbigay ng oras, nagpapasalamat kami sa kanilang lahat."

NO NEED FOR REAL-LIFE ROMANCE. The matinee idol said he believes there is no need for him and Toni to develop a real-life romance to ensure that fans will support their onscreen tandem.

"Yung mga ganitong pagkakataon, sobrang bina-value ko at pinapahalagahan kasi sana ito ang mag-set [ng standard] na hindi kailangan ang tandem na magligawan, dapat iligaw n'yo ang utak ng mga fans," John Lloyd said.

"Ang sarap isipin na nagma-mature na ang audience. At nabibigyan kami ng pagkakataon na kahit hindi kami in real life, nabigyan kami ng pagkakataon na gumawa ng pelikula."

In real life, John Lloyd is in a relationship with actress Shaina Magdayao while Toni's boyfriend is director Paul Soriano.

When Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina was asked if she would direct John Lloyd and Toni again for a follow-up of the movie, she said her next project would be a movie starring KC Concepcion and Sam Milby.

Aside from John Lloyd and Toni, the other cast members who attended the premiere night were Beatriz Saw, Cai Cortez, Carlos Agassi, Joross Gamboa, Ketchup Eusebio, JM de Guzman, and Atoy Co. Special guests that night included Zanjoe Marudo, Enchong Dee, Valerie Concepcion, Matet de Leon, and Gio Alvarez. ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio watched the movie along with ABS-CBN Channel 2 head Cory Vidanes, Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos and veteran director Olive Lamasan.

My Amnesia Girl is graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board and rated General Patronage by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
