Showbiz couples always say they want their relationships kept private. But no matter how often they say this, their avid followers still want the latest scoop on this very aspect of their lives—and never more so than when the couple are about to go their separate ways.
Before the year ends PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) runs down twelve showbiz breakups that made headlines and became the hottest topic among PEPsters.
No. 1: PEP puts the separation of celebrity couple Kris Aquino and James Yap at No. 1.
No matter how many PEPsters have said they were tired of the updates on the life of the country's Queen of All Media, they still showed real interest when Kris announced on television that her marriage with husband James Yap was "over." (CLICK HERE to read related article.)
No. 2: The Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson breakup.
Although the two have never admitted the real score between them, developments in the lives of the former Pinoy Big Brother teen housemates great affect their avid followers.
First, the fans were thrilled by their onscreen partnership and became certain that this had blossomed into an off-screen romantic relationship. Second, they fervently wanted the romance to go on and got terribly upset when reports of the two breaking up surfaced.
When the latter stories appeared, the former Tayong Dalawa actor commented, "Sinasabi nila kami na, tapos may balitang break na kami? Paano namang magbi-break yung magkaibigan lang? Friends lang talaga kami, yun lang yun." (CLICK HERE to read related article.)
All the same, PEP knows that Gerald moved away from Kim in the romance department, and that he and Bea Alonzo became an item but soon split up, and that all this did not sit well with the Kimeralds.
No. 3: President Noynoy Aquino and Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad's breakup.
The two are not a showbiz couple, of course, but with PNoy being the most eligible bachelor in the country and Shalani being quite beautiful, everyone was glued to their split. Now everyone seems intrigued by who PNoy's future First Lady will be (and who will win Shalani's heart now).
This interest has become so hot, it has become a nuisance to PNoy. Diplomatically, he has already excused himself from answering personal questions at press conferences, saying, "Kapag may dumating na changes, I guess I'll inform you. But at this point in time, priority has to be matters of the state."
Meantime, Shalani is also avoiding questions about her current suitors, saying to YES! Magazine (January 2011 issue; out in newsstands December 21, 2010) that, after the breakup, her heart needs a bit of rest.
