FIRST READ ON PEP: Dennis Trillo's manager on his ward's split with Jennylyn Mercado: "It doesn't have to be controversial."

Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado fell in love while on the set of Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, a Kapuso sineserye. In one of their early interviews as a couple, Jen said, "Basta, nag-click na lang kami." But according to a new PEP source, as the months passed their differences surfaced, leading to incessant fights, including the last big one.

"Your source is misinformed."

This was the opening line of Popoy Caritativo, Dennis Trillo's manager, when he responded at 3 p.m. today, March 25, to PEP's queries about the breakup of Dennis and Jennlyn Mercado. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)

The conversation was brief. Popoy wanted to make clear that Dennis was interested only in clarifying one item in the article posted in PEP earlier today: "Isa lang ang kaklaruhin niya. Yung tungkol sa selos. Hindi pa niya nababasa yung article, nakuwento lang..."

Five minutes after the phone call ended, he sent a statement via text message and, once again, began with: "Your source is misinformed."

Popoy zeroed in on the PEP source's claim that his ward Dennis Trillo had been jealous of Patrick Garcia, the father of Jennylyn Mercado's son.

Here is a portion of Popoy's statement (published as is): "According to Dennis, he was never jealous of Patrick bec he understood his position as the boy's father. As a matter of fact, it was Dennis who encouraged the reconciliation of Patrick and Jen. That was never an issue with Dennis."

It may be recalled that Jen reconciled with Patrick last June 27, 2010, when Jen showed up at the birthday of Patrick's niece, the daughter of Cheska Garcia-Kramer, with their son in tow. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)

In an interview during that period, Dennis told the story of how he figured in Jennylyn's decision to allow Patrick to see, on a regular basis, the son that Patrick had with Jennylyn. Before this, Jennylyn had deliberately kept the boy from seeing his father.

Dennis said then, "Nag-usap kami [ni Jennylyn]. Pero siyempre, malaking part ng desisyon ay nanggaling sa kanya. Ako lang naman, kinuwentuhan ko lang naman siya kung ano ang nangyari sa akin dati. At napagdaanan ko rin yung pinagdadaanan ni Patrick ngayon."

He also said, "Siyempre, alam ko yung pakiramdam na yun at, siyempre, malaking magagawa no'n kapag nagkita yung mag-ama. Ano yun, e, importanteng parte ng buhay yun na makasama mo ang anak mo. Dugo sa dugo."

Dennis himself has a son with former girlfriend Carlene Aguilar. The boy is with his mother.

CAUSE OF THE BREAKUP. Jen and Dennis—who, say many showbiz kibitzers, resemble each other—began with a romance that the kibitzers believed promising.

The two started as "hi-hello friends" who would bump into each other in SOP, GMA-7's defunct Sunday musical-variety show.

In 2005, they had the chance to work together in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Blue Moon, but not as screen partners. Jennylyn was paired with former boyfriend Mark Herras.

It was while doing GMA-7's teleserye Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, where Jen and Dennis were paired for the first time, that the chemistry between them registered—on the screen and way beyond it.

In one of Jen's interviews, she said, "Basta na lang kami nag-click."

For his part, Dennis said, "Siya ang babaeng inspirasyon ko ngayon. And she makes me happy..."

A new PEP source, who also belongs to the ex-couple's circle of friends, now claims it was Jen's "pagkaselosa" that became one of the big reasons behind the couple's constant arguments.

The showbiz insider tells PEP, "One time, pinag-abot ng bouquet si Dennis sa set ng Dwarfina kay Heart Evangelista dahil birthday niya Nag-away sila nun!"

Heart is the female lead in the series Dwarfina, where the award-winning actor plays the leading man. Heart, who belongs to the Ongpauco clan that owns a restaurant chain, is presently the girlfriend of the Brazilian-Japanese hunk Daniel Matsunaga.

In one of Jen's interviews, she had said that she had no problems about her boyfriend Dennis teaming up with the very pretty and rather fashionable Heart.

But, according to this new PEP source, every time Dennis and Heart would be paired even in a segment, a quarrel would follow: "Nagseselos si Jen!"

In the end, the Kapuso heartthrob apparently got tired of the constant fights. "He never heard the end of it," adds the source, referring to Jen's supposed chatter over Dennis's leading lady.

POPOY MUM ON THE TERRIBLE FIGHT. Popoy himself says he is not in a position to talk about any other issue involving the breakup. He says he knows nothing about Dennis allegedly cursing and humiliating Jennylyn during their last big fight and Jennylyn allegedly hitting Dennis during that same fight.

The complete statement of Popoy reads:

"Your source is misinformed. According to Dennis, he was never jealous bec he understood his position as the boy's father. As a matter of fact, it was Dennis who encouraged the reconciliation of Patrick and Jen. That was never an issue with Dennis. Like any other boyfriend-girlfriend, Dennis and Jen had other problems so they had to part ways. Some relationships just have to end. Theirs was not an exception. But it doesn't have to be controversial."
