AJ Perez’s Maalaala Mo Kaya episode earns favorable response from viewers

AJ Perez (right) starred with child actor Bugoy Cariño in the "Tsinelas" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, which was aired last Saturday, April 30, on ABS-CBN. It was AJ’s last performance as an actor since he passed away last April 17 in a vehicular accident.

"This episode with AJ is one of the most fulfilling episodes that I’ve done," sabi ni direktor Dado Lumibao sa text message na ipinadala niya sa PEP.ph ngayong umaga, May 2.

"Based on the feedback, it’s overwhelming!

Kumusta ang naging pagtanggap ng pamilya ni AJ—his dad Gerry, mom Marivic, and younger brother Gello—sa ipinalabas na huling performance ng mahal nilang yumao?

"I haven’t heard from the family directly but based on what I heard, they’re so overwhelmed," sabi ni Direk Dado.

THE FEEDBACK. PEP requested na mailathala rin ang mga positibong reaksiyon mula sa viewers na nai-send kay Direk Dado, which he politely obliged. Although, "I can’t mention their names, am not sure kasi if it’s ok with them," Dado begged off.

Anyway, here are some of the comments:

Congrats, direk!"

"Ngayon pa lang po naiiyak na ako. Congrats! Ganda-ganda!"

MORE FEEDBACK. Here are comments from other viewers who also liked last Saturday’s MMK:

"Ang ganda ng opening, Direk! Parang Slumdog Millionaire [British drama film, set in India, directed by Danny Boyle; 2008 Oscar Best Picture]."

"Congrats sa MMK episode mo with AJ Perez! Wonderful! A major triumph, given the circumstances! At kahit hindi namatay si AJ, his success as a dramatic actor should be attributed to your effective handling of all his scenes. Congratulations and more power!"

"With the MMK episode, ripe na si AJ for more challenging roles. Such an impressive performance!"

"Parang itinalaga na ang MMK episode niya ang mag-define sa pagiging aktor ni AJ; truly becoming his last and greatest performance! And for which everyone involved deserve commendation!"

"Watching Maalaala Mo Kaya now makes me realize AJ Perez could have really been one of ABS-CBN’s best young dramatic actors. Sayang..."

ACTORS’ DIRECTOR. PEP also took note of director Dado’s impressive track record as television drama director, partikular sa MMK kung saan nakapagtala siya ng hindi iilang episodes kung saan napansin ang kahusayan sa pagganap ng kanyang mga aktor at aktres.

Lumibao shared with PEP the acting triumphs his MMK actors achieved, gaya ng mga sumusunod:

"Joross Gamboa won the Star Awards [for Television 2009] for our ’Bisikleta’ episode.

"Zanjoe [Marudo] won in Gawad Tanglaw for ’Kuliglig’ episode.

"Angel Locsin won [her] first Star awards for the ’Blusa’ episode."

Other actors nominated in the PMPC Star Awards for Television, single performance category: Gina Alajar ("Car"), Angel Locsin ("Litrato"), Albert Martinez ("Bisikleta"), John Wayne Sace ("Mesa"), and Helen Gamboa ("Mesa").

Sabi pa ng direktor, "I also did two episodes with Coco [Martin] sa MMK kung saan napansin din ang performance niya."

Ito ay ang "Silbato" episode, where Coco played a mentally-challenged man who stood up for truth and justice.

And "Boarding House" episode, where he played a homosexual who seeks acceptance from a homophobic friend played by Derek Ramsay."

Tulad ng premyadong direktor na si Jeffrey Jeturian, who’s also one of MMK’s resident directors, hindi pa nakakagawa ng pelikula sa Star Cinema si Lumibao.

"Sana..." he simply wished.

He is flattered and thankful for the comparison, but returned the compliment, saying, "Marami pa akong kakaining bigas bago ko mapantayan si Direk Jeffrey."
