Cory Qurino supports Miss World policy allowing interpreters in all beauty pageants

Cory Quirino on allowing interpreters in beauty pageants: "’Yan ang kauna-unahang policy na na-set po namin sa Miss World Philippines. We will allow an interpreter, not only in London for the the Miss World finals but also here in the Philippines if they want to speak in their dialect [sic].

After series of screenings here and abroad, Miss World Philippines, headed by Ms. Cory Quirino, has finally chosen the 25 finalists who will compete for the Miss World Philippines 2011 title.

The coronation will take place this Sunday, September 18, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and will be aired over GMA-7 at 10:30 p.m.

Dingdong Dantes, Carla Abellana, and Isabelle Daza will host the show. Mark Bautista and Aljur Abrenica will perform numbers.

At the press conference held yesterday, September 15, at the PICC, the candidates were introduced to the members of the press together with the reigning Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States.

With the recent success of Shamcey Supsup who placed 3rd runner-up at the recent Miss Universe 2011, Cory was asked if Miss World Philippines organizers were now under pressure.

"So, that pressure has always been there. Whether Shamcey won or not, the pressure remains."

"So, I’m happy for our country. We even encourage more beautiful Filipinas to join.

"And if a Filipina made it in Miss Universe, that means, the consciousness of all the judges in the beauty pageant are open to welcoming the Filipina."

INTERPRETERS ALLOWED.

"We will allow an interpreter, not only in London for the the Miss World finals, but also here in the Philippines if they want to speak in their dialect [sic].

WILL NOT MEDDLE. At this point, may nakikita na raw silang possible winner among the Miss World Philippines candidates, pero in the end, judges pa rin ang mamimili ng mananalo.

"Hindi po kami makikialam," sabi niya.

"Actually, yung policy ng Miss World sa London, kaya nandito si Alexandria since first time kong mag-handle ng pageant.

"So, they leave it up to the judges. The judges’ decision is final.

"Hindi po kami makikialam."

BIGGEST PRIZES EVER! Ang Miss World Philippines daw ang maituturing sa history na may pinakabonggang papremyo sa bansa when it comes to prizes at stake for the winner.

Isa na rito ang one million peso cash prize bukod pa sa isang condominium unit in the Sea Residences of SM Development Center or SMDC.

Isang round-trip ticket for two to Paris, France courtesy of Etihad Airways naman ang mapapasakamay ng winning candidate.

"Actually, yung sa gala night, we raised about a million pesos for Tuloy Street Children Foundation and PGH [Philippine General Hospital] Medical Foundation.
