Gwendolyn Ruais wins Miss World Philippines

21-year-old Filipino-French Gwendolyn Ruais bested 24 other candidates to win the title Miss World Philippines 2011.

Gwendolyn Ruais (Candidate No. 13) was crowned Miss World Philippines during the coronation held earlier tonight, September 18, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

The 21-year-old Filipino-French bested 24 other candidates representing different parts of the country.

Helen Nicolette Henson (No. 24) was named 1st Princess. Interestingly, Nicolette also finished 1st runner-up at last year’s Binibining Pilipinas.

Martha Chloe McCully (No. 9) is 2nd Princess; Ma. Paula Bianca Paz (No. 22) is 3rd Princess; and Jaysel Arrozal (No. 15) is 4th Princess.

The other candidates who made it to the Top 12 are Elaine Kay Moll (No. 12), Rogelie Catacutan (No. 5), Erina Ann Lightholder (No. 25), Samantha Nerville Purvor (No. 1), Mercy Malaluan (No. 11), Charlotte Melissa Tyler (No. 7), and Loucelle de Jesus (No. 16).

Aside from winning the title Miss World Philippines, Gwendolyn was also awarded Best In Swimsuit.

As the winner of Miss World Philippines, Gwendolyn won one million pesos cash prize, a condo unit, and other fabulous prizes.


Gwendolyn, who was a finalist at last year’s Binibining Pilipinas, will also represent the Philippines in the 61st edition of the Miss World pageant to be held on November 6, 2011 in London.

Maria Paula, on the other hand, was adjudged Best in Long Gown.

Chloe won two special awards: Miss SMDC and Miss Kapuso World.

The Miss World Philippines 2011 coronation night was hosted by Dingdong Dantes, Isabelle Daza, and Carla Abellana.

The board of judges included GMA-7 executive Wilma Galvante, actress Iza Calzado, beauty expert Fanny Serrano, cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo, and boxing champ Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao.

Reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills also attended the event.
