Roseanne went to a GMA-7 audition thinking it was for a singing contest. It turned out that it was for a soap that would tag her as the next "Biritera."

All she wanted was to sing.

So when Roseanne Magan heard about GMA-7’s audition for eight- to ten-year-old kids, she joined without hesitation.

She sang two songs, "Isang Lahi" and "Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin," and as Direk Maryo J. delos Reyes put it, "Dumaan siya sa butas ng karayom."

Out of more than a thousand kids, this young lady—who can sing the high notes of Regine Velasquez with the clarity of Carol Banawa’s voice—was chosen to become the next Biritera.

In a soft voice, the latest Kapuso discovery said, "Sa akin po, kung napili po ako ngayon, ahm, siyempre po tuwa.

She admitted to feeling shy and nervous. What gave her strength was the thought: "Para ito sa pamilya ko."

WHO IS ROSEANNE? The Grade 3 pupil of Eulogio Rodriguez Integrated School is the sixth of seven children of Juanito, a factory worker, and Rosemarie, a housewife.

Her family, she said, is "mahirap."

This neighbor, Ruby Rodriguez, holds a special place in her heart.

SINGING HER WAY TO STARDOM. None of her parents can sing.

But when she was six years old, "Nakikita ko po mga kapatid ng Mama ko, kumakanta.

She started joining amateur contests at the age of seven, and would usually perform the songs of her idols, Regine Velasquez and Celine Dion.

Does she usually win?

Her biggest achievement is being cast as the lead child star in Biritera.

In preparation for the role, she has been taking voice lessons and attending acting workshops.

Like a sponge, she observes and absorbs everything around her.

Unlike most child stars, she doesn’t seem to enjoy playing.

However, she would like to buy Barbie dolls and a bike, "Kasi po kapatid ko na lang po nalalaro ko kasi wala po kaming mga laruan."

But for now, she is focused on work.

She told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Hindi po ako puwedeng mahiya.

Indeed, all she wanted was to sing...for her family.
