Martin Nievera plans to audition for X-Factor in the States

"So my back story is, at the age of 50... 50-year-old-singer... and they’re gonna do the research and see and, ’Oh, they call you the Concert King. What the hell are you doing here?’ You know? Even at this age, as a singer, I still have not achieved international stardom," says Martin Nievera when asked why he wants to join X-Factor.

"Yeah, I was surprised. I haven’t gotten an award for a long time. Nice pala ano?" paunang pahayag ni Martin sa pagharap niya sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at iba pang media sa Cerchio restaurant sa Quezon City.

" I was shocked. Usually they always slip. It’s always on the sequence guide [of ASAP]—’Martin awarding,’ yung gano’n. ’Huh?’

"Pero this time, they got me. They surprised me."

"I’m a big fan of the songs of before that’s why I do so many of these compilations," sabi niya.

"When I became a singer, ’I wish I sang that song. Oh, God, I wish I did that song!’

"And now, I have the chance to do it because simply these things are so in.

"You know, even the big-named singers are doing these remakes."

ORIGINAL SONGS PLEASE!

Sagot ni Martin, "Until I come up with an album of really great originals.

"This is my break. This is my holiday. This is me... just vocalizing.

"I mean, I don’t want to sound yabang but this is my way of... it’s my vacation.

"It’s my musical vacation... to go back in time and really bring back my favorite songs.

"And I have so many. My God, I could keep going on and on and on!

"I can even go through rock. I can go to different genres of music that I love."

"David Archuleta just remade a... ’You Are My Song.’

"So, I earn as a lyricist half of whatever Louie [Ocampo] charge because it’s his publishing company."

TALK SHOW. Pinag-uusapan ang covers, balita ring maghu-host uli si Martin ng talk show sa ABS-CBN gaya ng mga shows niya noon na Martin After Dark at Late At Night With Martin. Kailan kaya ito?

"Very soon. I’m asking them to revive it now," patungkol daw niya sa Kapamilya network

"I don’t know if we can use it again..." ang titulong Martin After Dark ang ibig niyang sabihin na sinimulang iere sa Channel 7 dati.

"Probably the Late At Night... Late at Night was a Channel 2 version of Martin After Dark. Depending on who owns Martin After Dark.

"I would love to bring that back."

I don’t know because they’re saying after the X-Factor.

"And I suggested during the X-Factor because they could use that show to help promote you know... also to help know more about these contestants who made it that far. Anyway...

"The way they do Ellen [De Generes Show]. Di ba, Ellen, Jay Leno and David Letterman... even the losers get to come out in their shows."

X-FACTOR JUDGE.

"I’ll go to Cebu I think at the end of this month to watch the finals there," patungkol niya sa buwan ng Pebrero dahil ilang araw bago magtapos ang buwan nang amin siyang makausap.

"And the pinaka-semifinals of all those from the different provinces in Metro Manila—I think that’s what we’re looking at July or August," na simula ng pag-ere ng show.

"As a judge, you do become a mentor. But you don’t choose them," paliwanag pa niya sa kanyang papel bilang judge ng nasabing show.

"I can’t be a judge and Gary [Valenciano] is not a judge. Hello!

"Someone’s gonna get mad. Who’s that someone?" biro niya sabay tawa.

"And also because we seem to be the loveteam to beat," biro niyang saad sa samahan nila ni Gary.

"I’m not prepared," sagot niya.

"I get so emotionally attached to people.

"Sana one-night judging lang, tapos ang kuwento, di ba? But no.

"It’s gonna be very hard.

"Naku, I can see it already.

"I’m gonna start falling in love with these kids. And hearing their stories..."

AUDITION FOR X-FACTOR.

"Here’s a little footnote for you... Before I got this offer to be a judge, I was actually gonna audition for X-Factor in the States. Seriously," sabi niya nang mapansing nabigla ang entertainment press sa kanyang ikinuwento.

"People think I’m crazy but how am I gonna get this kind of exposure, right?

"Okay, they call you the Concert King. What a title to have... to join a singing contest, you know.

"But at this point in my career, I feel my back story... every contestant has a back story, right, on the X-Factor.

"So my backstory is, at the age of 50... 50-year-old-singer... and they’re gonna do the research and see and, ’Oh, they call you the Concert King. What the hell are you doing here?’ You know?

"Even at this age, as a singer, I still have not achieved international stardom. And this is my only chance.

"I din’t have YouTube during my time. I didn’t have Internet.

"I didn’t have CDs during my time. Nothing was digital during my time.

"Everything was analog, you know. Black and white almost.

"You know, you know what I’m saying? So here’s my chance.

"I don’t know if I can be a contestant, I’m a judge [here in the Philippines] at the same time.

"Ang hirap yun."

Patuloy ni Martin, "I have nothing to lose. And then I have the whole nation rooting fo me.

"And I’ll be Filipino trying to make it... Exactly what I’ve been telling you guys since 1982 about this big dreams of making it... then I might go stand in line with the rest of them."

"I don’t know because that 60-year-old-guy is from a singing group," pagtukoy niya sa X-Factor finalist na si LeRoy Bell.

"The one who made third place. I don’t know, huh.

"Ang wala sa ’kin yung mga recordings sa America. I don’t have any recording contracts.

"But I think performing there... walang problema."
