G Tongi signs up with Viva Entertainment

"I graduated with a degree in Communications, Film, and Theater so I want to utilize that.

“Buti naman Viva is giving me an opportunity not just as a talent but also to utilize what I’ve learned in school.

“So I’ll be working with Viva on the production level as well, not just as a talent.”

“I was able to show them [Viva management] my film—my short film from school—and all the years that I’ve worked sa kolehiyo.

"So siyempre nakakatuwa because they’re giving me an opportunity and it’s exciting to me—not just as a talent, but hopefully as an executive in the future.”

“I have developed projects when I was in school for the kinds of films I wanna do.

“I’m not at liberty to tell them yet siyempre, but I’m very excited about it kasi hindi lang ako producer, artista din ako sa pelikulang ipo-produce ko.

“But yes, I definitely have films that I’ve developed the past three years that I intend to start on.”

FEELING THE PRESSURE.

"Pero ngayon, siyempre, there’s no pressure to be a talent.

“There’s more pressure to produce projects that I really believe in na feeling ko, kakaiba, na kailangan na talagang maramdaman ng Pilipinas.

“Kasi we’re so used to formulaic forms of entertainment and I wanna be able to put a different spin.

“I believe in edutainment—you can entertain people, but also teach them valuable lessons in life—and that’s the power of film, which is, like I said nga, something that I’m very excited about.”

WORKING WITH NEW ACTORS.

Marami sila, I don’t have anyone in particular.

Aniya, “I just feel very excited na, you know, I’m at a stage in my career where hindi na ko bagets. I’m a young mom.

"But I’m also very open to more challenging roles so I’m glad that I’m more mature now.

"So ngayon na may edad na ko ng konti and I have children, I’m excited to play roles that are meatier.

"As opposed to ‘pag bagets ka pa, your experience in life isn’t as colorful.

“So, I feel that in the 10 years I’ve been away, maski hindi n’yo ako napapanood, I’ve been in acting class.

"Continuously, I’ve honed my craft and that’s the reason why I left naman talaga, e, kasi gusto ko lang bigyan talaga ng importansiya ‘yong hindi lang pag-aartista kundi iyong pag-arte.”

"I would love to work with people that I’ve worked with in the past. But I don’t wanna limit myself to working with only people that I’ve worked with in the past.

“I’ve been gone for over a decade at marami na ring artista na hindi ko pa nakakatrabaho.

“So to limit na sabihing sila na lang at sila ang nakakatrabaho ko, I don’t wanna limit myself to work with just the people I’ve worked with before.”

“I don’t think so.

"I think I’ve gone past that stage in my life. Like I said, I am an executive, I want to really produce.

“And in order to do that, I can’t spread myself too thin so piling-pili talaga iyong mga proyektong gagawin ko bilang artista.

“And hindi naman natin nakakalimutan na that phase in my career happened when iyon iyong mga pelikulang ginagawa.

"So siyempre, panahon-panahon rin lang iyon, di ba?

"And now, iyong mga pelikula, iba naman.

"Of course with the changing of times, nagbabago din iyong mga klase ng pelikula na ginagawa.

“That’s why I’m excited because there are a lot of genres of films that have not been produced for the Philippine audiences—because nga, iyon na nga, uso-uso siya.

“Pero it’s up to us in the media to give people choices.

"So I think that, you know, given the opportunity for different kinds of films [to be] produced locally, there’s an audience, e, there’s a niche audience na pagbabagayan ng pelikula.

“Kasi sabihin natin ang pelikula usually lowest common denominator, but there are also niche films that ano… iyon na nga, may sariling audience.”
