Gloria Diaz denies rift with daughter Isabelle Daza; reacts to issue about transgenders joining the Miss Universe pageant

Ani Gloria, “A, wala iyon!

"Siyempre me, I always approve of what she does and what she does [not].

“Yeah, sometimes we talk about things and we disagree in everything.

“Kami ni Belle, we disagree.

Sa kanya, ‘No. It’s always red.’

“Basta as mother-daughter, in every way we have our differences. Kahit sa pagme-makeup or expression or the way I pronounce words, so balewala iyon.”

“Oh, no, of course not. It’s not that we’re not nagpapansinan.

“We were so busy. Hectic!

“No [it’s not true]. We were so busy and I was in a separate room from my daughter but we just needed time for [ourselves].

“I mean, it’s not true. I don’t know where did that come from.”

“No naman, no. I don’t know nga why it’s nanganganak, e. Ewan ko.

“Wala naman, okay lang.

"And the owners [of the magazine] naman are Maricris and Iñigo Zobel, they’re friends naman of ours.

“Alam mo, I trust her. She can do what she wants. She’s 24 years old, di ba?

"Si Isabelle can do what she wants to do.

“E, iyong 20 years old ko nga, you know, my daughter nga ’pag may sinabi ako, ‘Ava, tie your hair. It’s so magulo.’ She would say, ‘Mom, chill.’

“E, 24 na nga si Belle, e, di ba? So she can do what she wants.

“Iyon nga lang, sometimes she asks for advice. When she was doing some kind of an ad she says, ‘I’m kind of nervous.’ I said, ‘Relax. Just concentrate on your line. Do your best,’ iyon lang.

“She always naman texts me and hindi naman kami nagkakaproblema.”

ON ANNABELLE RAMA-AMALIA FUENTES ISSUE.

“A, yes, that’s very useless ’yang mga intri-intriga na ’yan.

“But I think that it’s really showbiz, e. Since time immemorial, di ba, meron ng konting intriga.

“I think people like it. People parang go on pa parang they’re getting into the news.

“Siguro it’s not entirely true, pero people like it.”

WORKING WITH RUFFA GUTIERREZ.

Actually, wala namang nangyari, e.

“I think there was a misunderstanding at hindi naman ako kasali doon. I just happen to be a bystander, di ba, so wala, wala iyon.”

THE MOMMY RETURNS.

“Oh, yes! Don’t forget to watch. It’s very funny. I just dubbed it and I did not know it would come out funny.

“It’s not even hard sell and ang ganda, ang ganda. Cute din ang role ko.”

PRAISES FOR POKWANG.

“Well, Ruffa naman... I’ve known Ruffa for a long time, but Pokwang I was surprised.

“She is so talented, she’s so magaling.

"I mean, she’s so flexible. Magaling. I like to work with her.

“I love working on comedy. Kung puwede nga kahit television puro comedy, e.

“Pero mahirap mag-comedy. Madali magpaiyak.

“Pero iyong comedy, talagang timing is very important and the lines cannot be hard sell so napakahirap ng comedy.”

Aniya, “It’s beautiful. I think it’s the best teleserye I’ve done.

“And I love working with the two directors [Lino Cayetano and Manny Palo] and of course, magaling si Sandy [Andolong], sina Boyet [Christopher de Leon], si Philip Salvador... big cast, e.

“Ang ganda. It’s about overseas workers na [ang buhay nila] hindi naman everything is raining money.

“Everything kind of gets destroyed—your family, iyong lovelife mo, iyong children go their way, gano’n iyan, e, di ba?

“And that’s the truth.

"Pero ang ganda ng pagkagawa. Ang galing ng scriptwriters. I’m so lucky this year talaga [with my projects].”

TRANSGENDERS ON MISS UNIVERSE.

Ayon kay Gloria, “Well, of course, I’m surprised.

Will it be a fair competition?’ Hindi ba?

“Dapat kasi hindi Binibining Pilipinas. Dapat Binabaeng Pilipinas sila, hindi ba?

“So, they can have a contest.

“So, I feel, okay lang if that’s what Donald Trump says. But I don’t think ipapanalo nila.

“And it’s up to the country, di ba, kung iyon ang gusto nilang ipadalang representative of their country then so be it.”

NORA DAZA AS NATIONAL ARTIST FOR CULINARY ARTS.

Ang kanyang sagot: “Actually, in fairness, they all deserve.

"But above all, ang gusto ko talagang maging National Artist is my ex-mother-in-law, Nora Daza, kasi siya naman ang talagang National Artist for culinary arts.

“When you think of food, who doesn’t think of Nora Daza?

“She’s the only one who dared serve adobo, pinakbet in a foreign country and was proud of it.

“Everybody says, ‘Ay, mukhang hindi maganda,’ but she’s the only one who tried to make it a beautiful thing.

“Pero besides them, of course, well, I’m a Noranian. I love Dolphy and sino pa? Vilma? O, e, bata pa sila.

"Si Dolphy na lang and Nora Daza. Daza, ha, Daza... kasi they’re much more mature and they should be recognized for all the work.”
