Gwendoline Ruais talks about transgenders, Miss Universe, posing for men’s magazines, and more

Nasa pangangalaga na ngayon ng Viva Entertainment ang showbiz career ni reigning Miss World Philippines at Miss World 2011 first runner-up Gwendoline Ruais.

I really like talking to people.

"Kaya nga sana, I hope, magkaroon ako ng show where I can practice more my hosting skills,” saad niya.

TRANGENDERS IN MISS UNIVERSE.

Aniya, “Iyong sa akin is, every pageant has its purpose.

“Some pageants are aimed at finding the most beautiful woman in the world, iyong iba, like Miss World, tinitingnan din iyong kalooban, what’s inside your heart.

"So, iyong sa akin is, kung gusto ng ibang pageants, like iyong Miss Universe, na mag-join ang mga transgenders, it’s up to them.

“Well, iyong akin is okay lang as long as everybody who joins the pageants knows the rules and regulations before they join the pageant.

“Ako, nag-join ako po ako ng Miss World Philippines knowing the rules and regulations.

“So kung ipapalit po nila iyong rules to allow transgenders, it’s up to the girls to join na.

ON MIRIAM QUIAMBAO’S CONTROVERSIAL QUOTES ABOUT LGBT.

“Like I said, I believe that political and religious opinions are very important and everybody is entitled to their own; but not every opinion is worth sharing with the public.

“I mean, you have to be very careful of what you post, of what you tweet.

"‘Di ba, iyong think before you click? Parang ganyan, that’s very important.

"That is her opinion, it’s her choice talaga. What you post is up to you.

“But also, personally, sa akin, I don’t have anything against transgenders, gays...

"I mean, women, men, for me it’s all the same. They’re all equal.”

RECYCLED CLOTHES IN BINIBINING PILIPINAS?

"We’re a very open and free pageant, of course, giving opportunities to all Filipino [designers] to showcase their talent talaga.

“So, it was really good for me to join Miss World Phlippines last year because, like I said, it was all Filipino designers.

“And when I went to London, I got to choose my own gown and I got to choose my designer who’s Filipino, and I was very, very proud to show his designs on the international stage.

“So in a sense, we’re very open. Hindi naman natin tina-target iyong ibang pageants.

“Kung recycled po [ang damit nila], that’s up to them. But [in Miss World Philippines] we’re very, very happy with innovation and showcasing Filipino talent.”

“I don’t want to compare and say which is better, which is worse, pero iyong sasabihin ko lang is I’m very, very happy and grateful sa experience na nangyari sa akin.

“Grateful po ako ngayon na hindi po ako nanalo sa Binibini kasi God has a better purpose [for me].

“I’m grateful na nanalo po ako sa Miss World Philippines at nakilala ko po si Ms. Cory at iyong Miss World Philippines Organization at Miss World Organization.

“Very, very open po sila at very fair ang galing kasi they really care about their girls, they pamper us, like I sad nothing is recycled everything is new.

“They give us everything we want, they are so caring, and talagang ibang iba sa ibang pageant," saad ni Gwendoline.

POSING FOR A MEN’S MAGAZINE.

Ang kanyang sagot: “May mga offers na po [for me to pose in a men’s magazine], pero iyong sa akin is, I’m not about posing in a swimsuit.

"It’s more about the magazine itself and what it represents. So, I have no issue posing in a swimsuit. It all depends on the context.

“It’s part of a beauty pageant to be confident in your body and there is a swimsuit portion.

"Best in Swimsuit po ako sa Miss World Philippines so wala po akong issues to pose in swimsuit and I enjoy the beach, wala naman akong issue diyan.

“Like I said, it all depends on the magazine and what you’re posing for and what message it’s gonna give.”

“Iyong sa ’kin is hanggang reigning pa po ako, ayaw ko po kasi I’m representing the country, I’m representing the Philippines.

“I don’t wanna do anything to disrespect the crown. It’s such a great honor and it would be disrespectful to do that.”
