Jon Santos says no to sex change; he’s happy "as is"

Has Jon Santos, impersonator extraordinaire, considered undergoing sex-change surgery?

“Hindi naman! I have an opportunity to change my character on stage. Pero off stage, parang so far, okay pa naman sa akin yung ’as is.’ My journey, so far, has not brought me to a point, wherein [I would want] a sex change," he says.

Kwento ni Jon, “I’m here for the Bikini Bodies 2012 pageant, I’m very, very grateful to Red Crab, Sumo Sam Group and Fitness Exchange at kinuha nila ako rito as host.

"I’m so grateful na hindi ako judge sa pageant na ito at ginawa lang nila akong host. Kasi alam kong napakahirap ng kanilang trabaho.

"Imagine, they will look for a candidate na mananalo na may good body proportion, fitness level, at personality sa pamamagitan ng question and answer portion.

“I think it’s extra interesting kasi parang binigyan yata sila ng crash course sa personality saka fitness exercises.

"... I think it is one unique feature of the competiton, [which is based on] hindi lang sa ganda, hindi lang sa talino, kundi yung bilis mo sa pag develop.”

PHYSICALLY FIT. Nakita ng PEP na fit na fit si Jon. How does he maintain his body?

“Sa pamamagitan ng Fitness Exchange, yung isa sa mga judges ng competition na ito ay naging physical fitness trainer ko—si Joseph Velasco. He is a professional fitness coach for many years now.

"Happy ako, kasi yung gabay niya… hindi lang sa klase ng exercise at kung ano yung ginagamit kong bakal, kundi pati sa klase ng kinakain ko, so it concerns my nutrition.

"Which at my age, I’m in my late 40s already, 90 percent of my commitment is, to eat well and to exercise," sabi ni Jon.

TRANSGENDER ISSUE. Patungkol naman sa Miss Universe pageant na hindi pinapayagan ang mga transgender na sumali sa nasabing beauty contest .

“Nahihirapan pa akong mag-comment, kasi I’m still trying to recall, kung ever since ba, mayroon ng issue about surgery?

"Curious ako kung nagkaroon ba ng guidelines about contestants being screened for any kind of surgery in the past.

"So, parang na-ko-confuse tuloy ako at nahihirapan akong sumagot kasi I’m still trying to recall kung dapat ba zero surgery. Pero of course, it’s getting harder to know.”

“For me, it’s still a step forward.

"But personally, I am not yet confident to give my approval or disapproval for transgenders to join in the Miss Universe pageant.”

SURGERY? Personal question: Has Jon ever considered undergoing sex-change surgery?

“Hindi naman! I have an opportunity to change my character on stage. Pero off stage, parang so far, okay pa naman sa akin yung ’as is.’

"My journey, so far, has not brought me to a point, wherein [I would want] a sex change.

"The fun part of my work is being able to transform into different personalities onstage. Masaya na ako sa ganun.

"At hanggang doon na lang muna yun. No sex change!” pagtatapos ni Jon Santos.
