Game ’N Go hosts Joey de Leon, Edu Manzano, and Arnell Ignacio share greatest lessons learned from their dads

Joey de Leon (middle) and Edu Manzano (right), with Arnell Ignacio, will be working on Father’s Day tomorrow, June 17. They will be launching their show on TV5 titled, Game ’N Go.

Three men are all set to rattle the viewing habit of Pinoys every Sunday, where variety shows dominate the television landscape.

It’s Joey de Leon’s first time to work with Edu Manzano. The former is known for his countless witticisms, and the latter, for his deadpan humor and the Papaya dance.

Joining the two veteran hosts is Arnell Ignacio, whose Go Bingo show became popular in the late ’90s.

During the luncheon sponsored by TV5 last June 13 at Mario’s restaurant, the three hosts talked about their upcoming show, politics, and fatherhood.

The output? A well of insights!

For the entrée, Joey reiterated something he said in a previous interview—that politics is not his cup of tea.

According to him, it would eat up time he can spend for the thing he loves most—traveling.

Likewise, Edu—who gave the Vice Presidential post a shot during the May 2010 elections—said his days as a politician are over.

He added in jest, “Pero ako, araw-araw akong tumatakbo…”

For Arnell’s part, “Ako, hindi, e. Lagi akong talo, e…”

He ran for councilor of Quezon City in the last elections.

LESSONS FROM DAD. Joey was around three years old when his dad Jose Seoane de Leon left for Madrid, Spain.

“Nagkita kami after 26 years,” he said.

Did he harbor any ill feelings toward his dad?

His quick reply, "Wala. Never.

His answer elicited chuckles from the press people attending the intimate gathering.

Edu was taught the value of quality time by his dad Adrian Manzano.

"I realized na it’s not all about work. It’s also about spending time with your children.

"I feel, buti na lang, sinabi sa ’kin, in time. kasi ngayon, bumabawi na ko."

ON BEING A FATHER. The common denominator among the three is that they’re all fathers.

Arnell called his status "complicated" because "ako, parang mother... mother and father."

As for Joey, "Hindi sa pagbubuhat ng bangko pero mabait ako bilang ng tatay."
The 65-year-old star has five children: Cheenee, Keempee, Jocas, Jako and Jio.

Edu, who has three kids—Luis, Addie, and Enzo—is a proud dad.

His eyes lit up when he talked about his 19-year-old unica hija, "Ang problema ko lang talaga, pag naglalakad kami, sa ganda nung batang ‘yon, e, kita mo talaga, yung mga ulo, e, [lumilingon]…

"Andun ako sa likod, e. Pinapanood ko, e. Maraming nagri-react because she’s very… very wholesome ang kanyang pagkatao."

When asked if his daughter already has a boyfriend, he replied, "yes."

He continued, "Mabait yung lalaki. At pakilagay dun, mabait, i-capital letters… Gusto kong mabasa niya ‘to, e.

Edu interjected, "Pag niloko?"

Smiling, Edu quipped, "Subject to interpretation yun…"

ON GAME ’N GO. Tomorrow, on Father’s Day, their game show will air its pilot episode.

When asked to describe their banter, Edu simply said, "Alam na namin yun. Automatic na yun. You know, it’s kuwan, e, yung instinctive, e."

With regard to the show, Joey assured that it’s "magandang alternative."

He elaborated, "Tignan natin. Pag hindi sila nag-ingat..."

What are their chances of making the audience switch?

Matter-of-factly, Joey responded, "Ay, oo naman.

"With the advent of remote control, wala nang puwedeng magyabang, e.

Smiling, Edu cut in, "Ang tanong, anong chances nila sa ’min?"
