PEP FORUM: Stars reveal the best thing about being a father

Ogie Alcasid (middle) on the best thing about being a dad: "There’s the feeling [of being needed] and the responsibility of being a parent. That’s the bigger challenge and it’s more fulfilling." Other celebrity dads celebrating their special today are Paolo Contis, Gabby Eigenmann, Jericho Rosales, and Dennis Trillo.

Merong cool, istrikto, disciplinarian, pero sa lahat ng ito, iisa ang sigurado—they only want the best for their children.
Kung tutuusin, isa sa mahirap na tungkulin ang pagiging ama. Ang ama ang nagsisilbing modelo sa mga anak. At kasabay nito, the father should also learn from their children.
Ngayong Araw ng mga Tatay, ilan sa mga celebrity dads ang nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) para alamin ang kanilang karanasan na maituturing nilang “best about being a father.”
OGIE ALCASID. Well, kapag sinusubaybayan mo kasi ang growth ng mga anak mo, it’s different all the time. Yung sa dalawa kong girls, it’s a great feeling na yung kailangan ka lang nila. Yun lang, mahalaga na yun. Sa bawat aspeto ng buhay nila. Advice, shoulder to cry-on. Siyempre ngayon, mga teenager na ang anak ko, but I’m so happy na nakakapag-usap sila sa akin, nakakapag-communicate sila sa akin.
And with Nate, siyempre, iba yun, baby pa yun but you can almost feel and sense from my son na kahit at this age, kilala niya ang magulang niya. Alam niya ang term na nangingilala pero sa kanya, alam niya kung tatay niya ‘to. The way he holds your hands, the way he strokes your hair, your face. When he looks at you, alam mo na ikaw ang tatay, magulang. Hindi mo ma-describe yung feeling na yun.
There’s the feeling [of being needed] and the responsibility of being a parent. That’s the bigger challenge and it’s more fulfilling.
JERICHO ROSALES. I guess, it’s having the opportunity to [teach and] learn from your kid... It’s also like having a number one fan.
PAOLO CONTIS. The best part about being a father is waking up every day at 6 a.m. because your kids are knocking on your door so they can play with you.
GABBY EIGENMANN. When you get to celebrate more. Aside from birthdays, Christmas, nandiyan ang Father’s Day. But kidding aside, mas nagiging responsible ka. You become a better role model to your children. You strive harder.
I guess, it’s the best when you see your kids grow up to be like you or maybe just a little bit [of you].
ZOREN LEGASPI. Siguro when you come home to your family, you know that you’re complete. You’re home with a family na lovable, funny. Na walang sakit ng ulo. Very obedient kasi yung kambal kaya masarap silang alagaan.
They love school. May mga bata ‘di ba, ayaw mag-aral? Sila, gusto. Tapos si Mavy mahilig sa sports. Si Cassy naman, dancing. At gusto kong malaman sa kanila, I know it’s very early, [gusto kong] malaman sa nila kung ano ang gusto nila for the future.
Medyo alam na nila, kaya somehow, I have peace of mind dahil alam ko na kung ano ang gusto nila. So we can work towards their dreams.
TIRSO CRUZ III. The opportunity of seeing your children grow up and [you] become part of their lives.
ALBERT MARTINEZ. Being a father softens your heart and opens you to life. No matter how hard things are at work, things lighten up at the sight of a smiling child.”
DENNIS TRILLO. Ako siguro, gusto ko lang makitang palaging masaya ang anak ko. So, lahat ng alam ko na makakapag-pasaya sa kanya, tina-try kong ibigay. Iba yung pakiramdam ng pagiging daddy. Very happy and fulfilling.
