Gladys Reyes, the kontrabida, returns to television; she’s happy to be doing another fantaserye

As an MTRCB board member, Gladys says she "walks the talk" in terms of guiding her kids on what kind of shows to watch.

Gladys Reyes is known for portraying kontrabida roles since the days of the original Mara Clara.

After her role as a kind and loving mom in her previous project, Wako-wako, Gladys is excited to again play the role of kontrabida in another fantasy series.

In TV5’s upcoming fantaserye, Enchanted Garden, she will be playing the role of Dolores, who will make life miserable for Aya, (played by Alex Gonzaga).

At the story conference of TV5’s newest offering at Max’s restaurant on Scout Tuazon in Quezon City last June 11, Gladys told us how excited she is.

“Kasi unang-una, interesting na talaga yung cast... I first found out from Carmina na yung gagawing first project ni BB and Zoren was a fantaserye…” she said.

This is BB Gandanghari’s first project since her rebirth with a new identity. What’s interesting is, she will be working with her ex-wife’s [Carmina Villaroel]’s current partner, Zoren Legaspi.

“And secondly, matagal ko nang kilala si ano e, well si, a.k.a. Rustom. Pero that time, we were doing teleseryes.

"Yung working attitude niya. Tingin ko, yun ang hindi nagbago,” she said.

If anything, BB may have become more fun, courtesy of her new found “liberty” in expressing herself.

She agreed, “Yes! What more sa mismong taping day, di ba?”

KONTRABIDA. As mentioned earlier, doing kontrabida roles has been Gladys’ trademark. What makes this role different from the others she’s portrayed?

“Well, alam mo, before ko ‘to ginawa, ah, galing ako sa Wako-wako. I was a loving, doting mother.

“And eto, yung parang cambio ko. Eto yung balik ko na naman as a kontrabida. First time ko also to work with Alex Gonzaga at siya yung aapihin ko.

“And since fantaserye ‘to…I’m so happy also kasi from one fantaserye to another fantaserye yung pinanggalingan ko, di ba? At mapapanood ng mga anak ko since fantasy rin ‘to.

“Kaya sobrang happy ako na these days, binibigyan ako ng Diyos ng mga work na alam niyang pwedeng panooring ng mga anak ko.

“Since I’m very particular with the show na pinapanood ng mga anak ko dahil nga I’m one of the board members of MTRCB.”

Gladys became a board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board in February, 2011.

“So parang, kumbaga, diba, I walk the talk.

Kaya dapat talaga maging vigilant ang mga magulang,” she said.

MOTHERHOOD. Gladys has three kids with husband Christopher Roxas. The eldest is Christophe, 5, followed by only girl Aquisha, 3, and the youngest is Grant Carlin, 1.

With all these projects coming her way, how does she juggle her time between work and kids?

“Alam naman ng marami na I’m very hands on with my kids, with my family. Until now I’m still breastfeeding my youngest who’s turning two this year.

Like, the family, di ba, yung kids ko.

“I make sure na dun sa mga pagkakataon na kailangan talaga nila ko, di ba, nandun ako…yung mga milestones nila.”
