But now it’s all set.
“And I think it’s all set and everything’s in its proper place. So, I think it’s a great birthday gift. Not only for me, but my gift na rin for the people who have been waiting for me to get back on the silverscreen.
“And I Do Bidoo Bidoo is a great project to get back into,” sabi ni Gary.
PLANS AND WISHES. Ano ang birthday plans niya?
“Not much. I’m just going to continue what I’m doing. I Do Bidoo Bidoo is really what I’m excited about.
"And I have X-Factor. Tonight will be our first live performance with all 12 finalists. It will be the last time you’ll see all 12 together, because tomorrow it will only be the bottom two who will perform.
"Tonight it will be the people who will judge. Tomorrow the judges judge.”
Actually, I had a meeting the other day with my team and there are still some incredible plans that are coming to pass.
“And you know we’re talking about a movie, and I’m writing the story.
“I’ve been writing for about four or five years, and I hope I can finish that by next year as part of my 30th-year celebration.
“There’s a whole bunch of events happening next year, from music to new media stuff, gathering of my past concerts.
“I want to, maybe, give the people an option of getting it in hard copy as in DVD, or it will be a YouTube channel and you can download whatever you want,” pagkukuwento ni Gary ng mga balak niya para sa kanyang 30th anniversary sa showbiz.
“I know, my 25th year, the one I did in Araneta, was crazy. But we’ll see. Yung sa 25th anniversary ko, we planned it a few months lang. And now we have more time to plan for my 30th anniversary.”
BIG SCREEN COMEBACK.
Kasama niya rito sina Dayanara Torres, Nida Blanca, Jolina Magdangal, Jao Mapa, Victor Neri, Roselle Nava, at Lindsay Custodio.
“Well, look, what happened with this project was that it was supposed to be done I think by March, April… And May, it was supposed to be shown.
“But umabot ng August and almost even September. And it was like that kasi, like what Zsa Zsa said, ayokong may naghihintay sa akin.
“It happened before in the movie Hataw Na. I did a movie with Sharon [Cuneta]. But Sharon was just as busy as me. And I had already warned Viva Films.
“Sabi ko, ‘I’m telling you, if you don’t follow the schedule, I cannot disrupt the tour.’ Kasi may downpayment na at lahat.
“E, na-disrupt yung schedule. So, Sharon had to wait for me.
“And because Sharon has waited for me, pati yung ibang movies niya nadale. And that was when I said, ‘No more.’
“And the last thing I did was Hataw Na. After Hataw Na, I stopped. And then I continued on doing tours, records, and all that, and do my own thing.”
Ngayong na-delay din ang pagpapalabas ng I Do Bidoo Bidoo, ano naman ang naapektuhan?
“Well, for me, nothing naman was affected. Muntik na.
“But the movie would have been affected because pumasok na yung X-Factor. And X-Factor is 100 percent involvement into the lives of the artists.
And then, of course, we understand naman what happened with Zsa Zsa and Tito Dolphy and all.
“It was good to see everybody really understand where we’re at. And Uge [Eugene] has to push her schedule, Ogie did the same, and I did the same.
“But if this went on, like, until October, then that will have to be a totally different story kasi I’ll be leaving na for tours abroad, e. And I also plan to do a bar tour and a Philippine tour also.”
WORKING WITH THE CAST.
And then they said the music of APO, that was the first thing that attracted me to do the project.
“Nung tanungin ko kung sino makakasama ko, then they mentioned the names of the artists, and I said, ‘Wow!’ I’m truly blessed na nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon to work with these artists.
“Like with Zsa Zsa, we often sing together sa ASAP, but we also act and sing together, which people don’t often see.
“To work with Uge and Ogie, nung ginagawa namin yung pelikula, it’s always fun—especially not in front of the camera, during break time.
“That’s my experience working these people.”
THE MUSIC OF APO.
“I love the music of APO. I used to practice with their song when I was in La Salle. I would go up to the hallway that had reverb and I would sing ‘When I Met You.’
“That was my practice and yun ang palaging ginagamit ko. I love the music of APO.”
May nakausap ba siya sa mga miyembro ng APO—Danny, Jim Paredes, and Buboy Garovillo—bago niya ginawa ang I Do Bidoo Bidoo?
“Actually, yeah, with Jim. We were in the Elements Camp last year, which is a kampo for songwriters and performers in Dumaguete. And he was talking to me about it nga.
“‘Uy, Gary are you gonna do it?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yeah, I think I am. There’s already a go signal na.’
“I’m really excited. ‘Tapos nagkita kami sa storycon. Nagkita kami sa gathering of artists, the first time that we’re gonna listen to the songs na arranged na.
“So, we’ve been able to keep in touch in that way.”
“I like ‘Batang-Bata Ka Pa,’ e. I think it’s really a part of who I am. I’m the UNICEF ambassador and how nice to sing that and, hopefully, kids and parents alike will get to see.
“Maganda yung pagkakuha, e. The way they treated the song in the scene sa movie. That’s one of my favorites talaga.”
