Marc Abaya compares mother Director Marilou Diaz-Abaya to a samurai: “Very calm. And that’s...yun, yung gusto niya para sa lahat. To deal with things as calmly as possible.”

“Maraming nagsasabing very strict teacher siya, pero she’s nice when she wasn’t in the classroom. Not to say na terror siya, because she was the greatest teacher I ever had throughout my life,” pag-alaala ni Marc Abaya sa inang si Direktor Marilou Diaz-Abaya na inilibing na kaninang tanghalian sa Loyola Memorial Park, Parañaque City.

Kuwento niya, “I think my mother touched the lives of many, many people.”

“I think her greatest legacy, apart from her films, are the lessons that she’s taught her students.”

“My mother is very generous to me, very supportive of my brother David and I, in our careers, and I’m more inspired, so is my brother, so is my father [Manolo] to be better at what we do. It’s not pressure, it’s inspiration.”

Dagdag pa niya, “Maraming nagsasabing very strict teacher siya, pero she’s nice when she wasn’t in the classroom.

“Not to say na terror siya, because she was the greatest teacher I ever had throughout my life.”

If she wanted to be makulit, mahilig magkuwento tungkol sa mga kaibigan niyang pumanaw, si Ishmael Bernal, Johnny Delgado.... Glory days of filmmaking niya,” pagbabalik-alaala ni Marc.

She’s also a painter.”

Very calm. And that’s...yun, yung gusto niya para sa lahat. To deal with things as calmly as possible.

“May peace of mind, clarity of mind, hindi ka dapat magalit kaagad-agad.”

Naiiyak na sabi nito, “I will never forget you, I miss you so much. I will take care of David and dad and that we will be fine and we will never forget what you taught us.”

“We will try to be the best that we can be for other people not just for us. And we’ll be fine and I’ll miss you so much.”
