Artista Academy’s male grand winner Vin Abrenica’s year ends with a bang as he was offered to star in the 2013 soap Never Say Goodbye.
The upcoming TV5 show topbills Superstar Nora Aunor, Gardo Verzosa, Alice Dixson, Cesar Montano and Edgar Allan Guzman with Vin and Artista Academy female grand winner, Sophie Albert.
“Big project talaga siya for 2013,” Vin told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in our December 11 interview at talent manager Noel Ferrer’s birthday celebration in Zirkoh, Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
The 21-year-old newcomer put his first-time jitters into words, “Sobra. Ate Guy, Gardo Verzosa, Cesar Montano, Alice Dixson, Edgar Allan Guzman, grabe. Engrandeng-engrande talaga!
“So dapat… pressured talaga ako! Pero in a way, good pressure naman siya.
“This is it! This is the moment na puwede kong patunayan kung bakit ako nanalo ng Artista Academy.”
He affirmed that, yes, he is “all set” for the project and, in fact, he had already shot scenes with Nora Aunor.
Vin narrated how nervous he was at first but soon overcame his jitters, especially after realizing that he already worked with Philippine showbiz’s Superstar during one of the acting tasks in Artista Academy.
“Nung naka-eksena ko si Ate Guy, medyo nung una talaga, kabado ako. Pero naka-eksena ko na siya sa Artista Academy, e.
“Dun talaga ako nag-Top Pick of the Night. Medyo na-boost naman yung confidence ko dahil dun!”
The young talent continued, “Tapos ngayon naman, sa taping namin, at ease na ako sa kanya kasi nanay-nanayan ko talaga si Ate Guy.”
Vin talked about a memorable mother-and-son scene with Nora: “Nagkaroon ng eksena na talagang sinampal niya ako.
“Ang sakit! Pero para sa akin, kung iisipin ko, sobrang saya kasi it’s an honor for me!
“Iba yun. Konti lang nasasampal ni Ate Guy!
“At muling pagbabalik niya sa showbiz, di ba? Kakabalik lang niya, ang una niyang sinampal, ako!
“Yes, ako! So, I’m very proud!” he exclaimed, laughing.
SOPHIE ALBERT. Asked during the interview about how he and his tandem are doing, Vin said that he Sophie are “leveling up.”
Vin clarified that he and his 22-year-old reality-show counterpart are leveling up “career-wise” and not heading towards any real-life romance.
“Kasi kaka-start pa lang namin. Actually, kaka-start ko lang sa showbiz, ayaw ko muna magkaroon ng … alam mo yun?
“Ganun din siya, alam ko.”
He defined, nonetheless, how close he Sophie have become. “Nag-eenjoy ako pag kasama ko siya. Ganun din sana siya sa akin pero nagkataon ng mga lakad na gusto ko siya kasama, kunwari with family.
“Gusto ko siya kasama kasi my family is okay with her and same din ako sa family niya. Maganda na yung ganun.”
When further asked if he could possibly court his lovely on-screen partner, Vin insisted, “Sa career muna ako, e.”
He slightly took it back, “Pero kung ako tatanungin mo, girlfriend-material talaga siya.
“We started out as friends. Ayoko maging awkward na dumating sa point na… we’re best friends talaga…
“Hanggang ngayon we’re best friends, loveteam. Ayoko nang umabot sa point na magkakaroon ng awkward na may selosan.
“Ayoko sanang umabot sa ganun. I’m happy kung ano man meron kami ngayon.”
Vin said that he wants to take care of their professional relationship above all. “Yun ang pinaka mas aalagaan mo talaga.”
FAMILY FIRST. Early in his career, Vin has already tasted the negative side of showbiz— intrigues. One of the issues being thrown at him is the brewing rivalry between him and his Kuya, Kapuso’s primetime teleserye actor Aljur Abrenica.
In a separate interview with Aljur this year, the Starstruck “Ultimate Hunk” emotionally dismissed the intrigue. Aljur stated firmly that he and his younger brother have a strong bond. (CLICK HERE to read related story)
To this Vin reacted, “Aww. Para sa akin that’s so sweet. I’m going to talk to him about that.”
He further said, “About sa rivalry, wala. Para sa akin, nangingibabaw yung love.
“Kahit anong mangyari talaga, they don’t have an idea kung gaano kami ka-close ni Kuya, kung gaano [namin] kamahal ang isa’t isa.
“Para kaming kambal actually. So, kahit anong rivalry sinasabi nila, we’re just here to support each other.”
Aljur, according to Vin, has been extra-supportive.
“Nung nanalo ako sa Artista Academy, wala siyang ginawa kundi umiyak!
“Nauna pa siyang umiyak sa akin! Happy na happy siya. Ganun din naman ako sa kanya.
“Kung anong achievements niya, I support. At ganun din naman sa akin.”
Vin related how encouraging his Kuya has been. “Binigyan na niya ako ng upuan pang-taping. Binigyan niya ako ng mga, alam mo yung mga boxes para sa mga sapatos, binigyan niya ako ng mga hanger, binigyan niya ako ng pole para sa taas ng kotse para sabitan ng damit. Siya nag-ayos talaga para ready [ako].”
HOLIDAYS FOR THE ABRENICAS. Their family has always been a tightly-knit bunch. The Abrenicas, said Vin, make sure that they spend equal time with their relatives from their mother’s and father’s side of the family.
The newbie explained, “Ang sa mother’s side talaga, every Christmas kami nagsasama. Tapos pag New Year naman, dun naman kami sa father’s side sa Batangas. Magkahiwalay, e. Pampanga, Batangas, north and south.
“So ngayon naman, we’re planning na sa Pampanga ulit. Or dito sa Manila, sila naman pumunta dito!
“Kung ano man mapag-usapan nila, ako naman kasi basta kumpleto yung family.
“Basta Christmas is family. Siguro [with some] friends. Pero family, solid talaga.”
2012 HIGHLIGHTS, 2013 GOALS. In summary, the year 2012 is unforgettable for Vin. Asked what the year’s top three highlights are, he answered, “I graduated! I graduated ng Culinary Arts. So that’s dual diploma ng Culinary Arts and baking.”
Vin took his Culinary Arts degree at Global Academy, a school at the Fort run by TV chef Rob Pengson.
Meanwhile, a second highlight, Vin said, would be winning Artista Academy and, third, being asked to star in his first soap.
His goals for 2013?
Vin mused, “Gusto ko makilala na I’m a healthy man. I’m fit, I’m healthy, I’m an athlete. Gusto ko maging ambassador ng something.
“Gusto ko pagsabayin yung workout and yung soap, e. Mahirap talaga. Gusto ko pagsabayin! It’s going to be summer after ng soap, e. Dapat … fit.
“Marami akong plans,” he ended.
