Singer Richard Poon confirmed his engagement to actress Maricar Reyes at the press launch of his latest album held earlier today, April 29. However, Richard declined to give details about their upcoming wedding.

Singer Richard Poon confirmed reports that he and actress Maricar Reyes are now engaged.

He gamely answered the question earlier today, April 29, during the press launch of his sixth studio album, Legends, under his new record label Universal Records.

When asked if they are already engaged, the crooner told the media: “Oo... oo.”

However, Richard was tight-lipped about the details of their upcoming wedding.

“Pag may detalye, probably, dahan-dahan ibibigay namin [sa inyo],” he said.

When asked about the exact date that he would like to tie the knot, Richard quipped, “Kung puwede bukas! Pero pinaplano talaga yung ganito, e.”

According to him, he immediately developed a crush on Maricar when he first saw her on the ABS-CBN primetime teleserye Betty La Fea (2008).

“Akala ko Taiwanese superstar siya.”

Richard also disclosed that his family has already formed a strong bond with the once controversial actress.

“Every Sunday, pag kaya, nagdi-dinner kami sa restaurant ng dad ko. So, nakakapag-usap sila.

“Amazingly, my dad… medyo ano ’yan, e, mahirap i-please, [pero] gustung-gusto niya si Mars [Maricar],” he added.

The singer also revealed that his dream wedding would be one that is intimate, with their families and close friends attending it.

“I like her because she’s very simple. Hindi siya yung parang materialistic,” he said of the type of wedding Maricar would want.

Likewise, Richard shared what he likes most about his fiancée.

“Nung nakilala ko siya [nang mabuti], may character, e. Grace under pressure. I think that speaks a lot.

"She’s gone through a lot. I just like the way her character handled it.”

Since it was the press launch of his new album, the crooner was also asked by the media to cite a song that he would dedicate to the actress.

“I’d like to dedicate love songs to her, but honestly, ayaw niya ng love songs.

"Pero gusto daw niya yung And I Love Her ng The Beatles, parang yun yung gusto niyang version ko,” he said before sharing that he and Reyes have different tastes in music.

“Sabi niya, ‘Hon, I may not be in love with your genre, but I love your voice,’” he recalled, while revealing that the actress is more into alternative music.
