A May 21 news article on GMA News Online reported that actress-TV host Maxene Magalona had a confrontation with her co-network talent Bela Padilla in a bar.
Maxene allegedly spat alcohol on the Love and Lies lead actress. Bela is now the girlfriend of Maxene’s former non-showbiz boyfriend, Neil Arce.
The two actresses have been pitted against each other since Bela and Neil became a couple.
Meanwhile, the bar incident was immediately denied by Bela via the actress’s official Twitter account.
On May 21, she tweeted, “This is not true. @maxenemagalona didnt do this to me. i work almost everday and I don’t go to bars.”
Bela ended the tweet by attaching a link of the article on GMA News Online.
NOT TRUE. PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and members of the media had the chance to clarify the said report with Maxene last night, May 23, at an event that the Magalonas hosted at the 7th High bar at the Fort.
The actress was quick to reply, “I don’t just really want to comment na lang about anything.”
Prodded to confirm if the incident really happened, Maxene said, “Hindi po totoo yun. That’s not true. It’s not true."
She stressed, “Hindi po kami nagkita ni Bela. Nagkikita lang po kami ni Bela sa trabaho, ganun lang.
“Dun lang kami nagkikita but it’s not true, it’s not true.”
Upon the mention of Bela’s May 21 tweet, Maxene cut off the statement.
“Ayoko na talaga pag-usapan ’yan kasi I don’t want to talk about things that never happened.
“Bakit natin siya pag-uusapan kung hindi naman nangyari?”
KONTRABIDA. On a lighter note, the actress is set to return on television via the upcoming soap opera Mga Basang Sisiw.
The remake will star Maxene with Mike Tan, Gardo Versoza, Raymond Bagatsing, and Renz Valerio as the eldest among the child actors that the soap will feature.
Maxene last starred in the GMA-7 soap Faithfully last year.
In Mga Basang Sisiw, the actress will take on the role of an antagonist for the first time.
She excitedly told, “Actually, I just started taping kahapon and ngayon, after nito, babalik ako dun sa set ng Mga Basang Sisiw.
“I’m so excited! This is the first time that I’m going to play a kontrabida role.”
According to Maxene, viewers can expect her to be different this time— “Gusto ko siya gawin na ibang atake. Hindi ito yung stereotype na kontrabida…”
She added that her character will be a contradiction to her sweet, “maamo” face.
“So, very challenging yung role kay ako tinanggap.”
In preparation for the role, the 26-year-old actress underwent a one-on-one workshop with veteran actor Pen Medina.
Maxene relayed how grateful she is for having Pen as a mentor.
“Sinabi niya sa akin kung paano ba talaga gawin ang isang role, kung paano mo talaga mai-imbibe yung character mo.”
HAPPILY SINGLE. In the interview, Maxene was likewise asked how she is enjoying her single life.
The actress, who evidently looked fresh and in top shape, gladly exclaimed, “I love it!”
“Don’t get me wrong,” she quickly took back.
“Kami ni Renz [Fernandez], we decided that it’s better for us to be friends na lang.
“But I really love my single life, not because my lovelife [has taken a back seat] but because I’m finally able to focus more on myself—on my work and my career.
“Sabi ko nga, this time around, ang boyfriend ko naman ay ang career ko… The longest time that I was single was five months lang.
“So, sabi ko, kailangan ibigay ko sa trabaho ko and sa sarili ko.
"Parang tama na muna, trabaho na lang muna.”
It was only in March this year that the actress confirmed her split with Renz Fernandez, her boyfriend of less than a year.
When not taping for her soap, Maxene says she keeps busy by working out. She would often be seen in a boxing gym in Ortigas and jogging every day at the Ateneo de Manila University where she finished her undergraduate degree.
“So, alam mo yun? Parang I’m just so happy na ang dami kong nae-experience ngayon na never kong na-experience dati.
“Never naman ako nagkaro’n ng time talaga for myself.
“So, ngayon, ako na lang muna. Ako naman," she lastly said.
