Lovi Poe is GMA Network’s “Primera Aktresa”—a title that the actress feels grateful for and wonders why she was given.
The “announcement” came with television promotions aired in between GMA-7’s shows late June.
As the award-winning actress adds another feather to her cap, some felt she was not worthy of the title.
“I don’t know. I’m not aware din naman,” Lovi told the media at a solo press conference held today, July 12, at GMA Network Center in Quezon City.
Reacting to the negative comments, the 24-year-old actress added, “Basta ako, I’m just thankful.”
She recalled having mixed feelings when she was told about the big news.
“Nung nag-meeting kami about it, nagulat talaga ako. I felt so happy.”
How did it happen?
Even Lovi is oblivious: “I don’t know kung paano nag-start.
“When they told me about it, nag-slide show pa and everything, nagulat ako, as in I was really surprised.
“Naiiyak nga ako because I can’t believe na nangyari yun, na nangyayari ito sa akin ngayon.
“Sabi ko nga, may mga bagay siguro na nabibigay sa ’yo na nahihiya kang tanggapin.
“Nung nangyayari yun, napi-feel ko na, ‘Anong ginawa kong tama?’ Parang ganun.”
If anything, the actress feels even more inspired to be a better actress.
“Mas ginanahan akong magtrabaho,” she said.
AKIN PA RIN ANG BUKAS. Lovi’s latest feat comes with Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas, a new teleserye project wherein she is cast alongside veteran actress Helen Gamboa, a former leading lady of Lovi’s father, the late Fernando Poe Jr.
“It’s an honor,” Lovi beamed.
“Hopefully sana ma-meet ko yung expectations ng lahat ng tao.”
Apart from Helen, the young actress will be working with award-winning actor-director Cesar Montano.
It was funny, Lovi told, how she got starstruck by Cesar during their photo shoot for the soap.
“Naiilang ako kasi dati pinapanood ko lang siya pero ngayon makakatrabaho ko.
“I’m very excited.”
The actress will likewise be working again with Rocco Nacino, who Lovi said she remains friends with after playing his leading lady in Love Bug and Yesterday’s Bride.
Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas also features two other actresses—Solenn Heussaff and Charee Pineda.
Will the three engage in a “who’s-sexiest” showdown?
Lovi quickly replied, “Hindi! Si Solenn saka si Charee lang ang sexy!
“Pero yung sa akin kasi, iba na yung role ko dito.
“[It’s] a very different Lovi so excited ako. Sana bagay.”
LOVI: REINVENTED. At her solo press conference, Lovi told that her role in Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas will be unlike her other daring roles.
She said that she will be veering away from those sexy characters for a while.
“Siguro I’ve done so much of that. Nakakapagod din,” Lovi explained.
Does it have anything to do with her being “Primera Aktresa?”
“It’s not necessarily because of that but… for a change naman,” Lovi conveyed.
“Parang people got used to me wearing these outfits or doing production numbers or sexy shoots.
“Para maiba naman.
“Kumbaga, back to basics.”
Her character in the soap, Lovella, calls for the reinvention of Lovi as an actress.
“Siguro kasi I don’t want it like the usual.”
In Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas, Lovella will seek revenge on the people who, in the first part of the story, will give her a hard time.
Lovi talks about Lovella: “It’s a struggle [for her] kung paano makakamit lahat ng pangarap [niya] kahit maraming nagpu-put down.”
The actress said that she can relate with her character in that respect.
“So siguro naman hindi ako masyadong e-effort… Joke lang yun!” Lovi exclaimed, laughing.
Did she experience being “put down” when she was starting out in showbiz?
Lovi grinned and replied, “Basta, I’m over it! Bubuksan na lang natin yung wounds na ’yan pag nagte-taping na tayo!”
GMA-7’s “Primera Aktresa” begins taping scenes with Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas’s director, Laurice Guillen, next week.
