It’s been a long time since I last applauded vigorously to a play. Thank you @rapalops for the great seats to this docu-musical tribute to Ninoy and Cory Aquino… our icons of democracy.
“As we exercise this freedom for tomorrow’s cause, let us all remember what they fought for. Let our voice be heard in the most peaceful, yet penetrating manner."
May caption ito na: “You see, even he made his ultimate sacrifice and put on his white birthday suit. I think taxpayers like me demand for answers where the money intended for our country really went, just as I believe, we have all the right to ask for accountability from our leaders as responsible citizens exercising the freedom of democracy.
“That is why today, I join in spirit for the scrapping of the pork barrel, and is against its mutation to any similar form or intent.
“Let our voices be heard in the most peaceful, yet penetrating manner:
“Ang kay Juan, kay Juan. Nasaan ang inaasahang kaban ng Bayan?” Scrap the pork!”
"I Support the Call to Scrap the Pork.
"The shocking revelations involving the misuse and grave abuse of government funds that our lawmakers control under the Priority Development Assistance Fund is completely detestable.
"Their acts betray public trust, as the Php10 billion siphoned by the perpetrators to their personal accounts could have easily been spent for the construction of at least 16,000 classrooms, effectively addressing around one-fifth of our school infrastructure deficit. Surely, the Php10 billion could have also been allocated to so many other pressing needs of poor Filipinos.
"As responsible citizens in a democracy, I believe that many taxpayers like me have the right to demand for answers from our leaders. All public officials should always be accountable to the people.
"Taxes, supposedly, are meant to fund the development of the Philippines.
"However, the PDAF and its predecessor, the Countrywide Development Fund, have not served their purposes faithfully, and fully. Instead of spending too much time and energy on rolling out the pork barrel, I believe lawmakers, as their job description suggest, should focus on crafting good laws and setting policy directions.
"Today, I therefore join the Filipino people in calling for the scrapping of the pork barrel and oppose its revival and mutation to any other form. Let our voices then be heard in the most peaceful yet penetrating and moving manner: ’Ang kay Juan, kay Juan. Nasaan ang inaasahang kaban ng bayan?’
"As our martyr, former Senator Ninoy Aquino said, “stand up now, and be a leader."
"Scrap the Pork!"
