PNoy to Manny Pacquiao on tax issue: “Do not engage in media war.”

President Aquino backs the BIR in tax issue with Manny Pacquiao, stressing it is not the intention of the government to put the squeeze on the boxing champ. He noted, in a report by InterAksyon.com, the difference in the tax rate between the United States’ Internal Revenue Service and that of the BIR’s.

Pahayag ng Pangulo, “Ang dulo nito siguro, and with all due respect to Congressman Pacquiao, if he believes that he has complied with all the necessary rules and all the necessary laws, surely he has all the evidence to afford.”

Pero depensa naman ni Manny: “We submitted a copy of IRS from the U.S., which they refused to honor because they want an original copy.”

"If he did right, then I’m sure he will be able to prove that he did right, and therefore there is no issue.

“So the way to settle it is to answer all of these queries by the BIR and not to engage in a media war.

“The media will not decide who is right or wrong, di ba?

“It will be our courts eventually, if it gets to that, who will decide. But, again, the process has been two years," pahayag ni PNoy.
