“Overflowing, unexpected year!” was how Julia Montes described her 2013.
In an interview last December 16, Monday afternoon, at the Trinoma mall in Quezon City, the 18-year-old gleefully said that the past 12 months have been full of surprises for her.
One of the career highlights this year of the Kapamilya teen star was a starring role in the primetime soap Muling Buksan Ang Puso, where her onscreen tandem with heartthrob Enrique Gil was well accepted by the public.
Earlier in 2013, Julia also top-billed the romantic drama film, A Moment in Time, with her former teleserye leading man, Coco Martin.
Julia and Coco were onscreen sweethearts in the highly successful 2012 primetime soap, Walang Hanggan.
The blooming Julia also counted shedding off pounds among her achievements this year.
In her interview, Julia mentioned the healthy lifestyle that she has been trying to keep.
So far, she said she has been reaping results from her regimen of dieting and finding time to box.
“Medyo nag-start talaga ako sa matabang-mataba! Kailangan kong [magpapayat].
She relayed her regimen: “Siguro minsan, kung may time ako or nasa mood ako, magbabawas ako ng kain.
“Minsan pag may time din, magba-boxing ako. Hindi rin ako religious [sa pag-workout].
"Hindi ako tulad ng iba na three times a week. Parang every now and then lang na may time.
“Minsan once a week.
DYESEBEL. Julia’s weight loss will certainly come in handy should she land the role of Dyesebel—the now iconic mermaid that became famous, first with aficionados of comic books, then with movie audiences, and then with the TV-viewing public.
The Kapamilya network, which acquired the rights of Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel, Darna, and Captain Barbell in 2013, has tapped several young female talents to audition for the fictional mermaid.
Among the aspirants, apart from Julia, are Cristine Reyes, Erich Gonzales, and KC Concepcion.
The news thrilled Julia, but it also got her a bit thoughtful about the oncoming pressure, should she bag the role.
She remarked, “Actually, pag sinasabi sa akin ’yan, kung totoo man, in a way nakaka-pressure siya—bilang buntot lang siya, buhok, and kailangan fit ka do’n!
“So, pressure yun! Pero, ngayon wala pa naman po.
“Normal na pag bata, dream na maging serena.”
At the same time, Julia hinted about a project that also has her all excited for 2014.
The project she was talking about is on her list of goals for 2014.
Julia has said that her aim in 2014 is to take on a character that will make her sweat.
2013 LESSONS. Asked what her biggest lesson was in 2013, the half-Filipina, half-German beauty answered: “Think before you talk. And siguro, don’t react agad unless alam mo yung nangyayari.”
Asked to elaborate, Julia explained that she has always been the kind to believe what other people say, disregarding what she knows and feels.
Julia Montes is clearly leaving 2013 a more mature person.
