Iza Calzado feels the pain of Biggest Loser participants

Asked about her thoughts on plastic surgery, Iza Calzado says, "I feel that a person should have the option to choose whether they want to do it or not."

Iza Calzado personally knows the difficulties of losing weight.

The actress has gone on record that she used to weigh 220 pounds when she was younger.

"Noong ako’y 15, I was around 220 pounds," Iza revealed during the pocket press conference last January 17 for The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles.

Iza will host the show.

"My current weight is now 130 pounds," she said with a smile.

Asked to recount her most painful experience because she was overweight, Iza answered, "Marami...tinutukso-tukso ka ng tao."

She said that part of her life will be the story in an upcoming episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

"Ikukuwento ko ang journey at ang struggle ko kung bakit ako naging malaki.

"Minsan ang pisikal na aspeto natin ay repleksiyon lamang ng pinagdadaanan natin sa loob.

"There was a reason why I kept on eating."

EMPATHY. Iza said she can feel the pain of the 14 pairs of overweight participants in the ABS-CBN’s reality show The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles, which will start airing on February 3.

"Parang teleserye, iyak rin ako nang iyak.

"Kasi minsan, hindi ka aware, may sasabihin sila na bigla ka na lang tatamaan.

"Minsan, it’s about weight or minsan it’s about their father.

"Because of our weight issues and our struggles, I emphatize with them in that aspect.

"I am with them at least twice or three times a week. Talagang I really emphatize with them."

As in the previous edition, the contestants will live in a camp where they will undergo rigorous training conducted by challenge masters Matteo Guidicelli and Robi Domingo, along with coaches Jim and Toni Saret.

WORKOUT BUDDY. Iza related that her boyfriend Ben Wintle can testify to her dedication to her fitness regimen.

According to the actress, Ben has cautioned her to go easy on her schedule since she has the tendency to go overboard.

"Sometimes, pinapagalitan ako ni Ben kasi I work out a little bit too much.

"He always tells me to relax, which is a good thing, especially for women, because we have to take into account our hormones.

"The more stressed you are, the more weight you [add]."

On the upside, working out has opened a way for Iza to bond with her boyfriend.

She said, "When we go on location, we get to work out talaga.

"We do sprints. We did Muay Thai in Thailand."

ON COSMETIC SURGERY. The actress admitted she once resorted to plastic surgery.

"Ginawa ko siya dati.

"I feel that a person should have the option to choose whether they want to do it or not.

"I will never discourage them but always know that for every action, there is a consequence. Just know the consequences.

"Malay mo, balang araw, pagtanda ko, sabihin ko [gusto ko mag-undergo ng cosmetic surgery].

"Ang hirap sabihin na hindi ko na gagawin yun.

"For now, I would like to be as natural as possible.

"Since I found a formula that works for me, hindi ko na muna gagawin siguro."

WILL SHE POSE FOR FHM? When asked if she is willing once more to pose for a men’s magazine, Iza pointed out, "I’ve already done that for Esquire Magazine."

Is she willing to pose for FHM?

She replied after a pause, "I’m not sure. I don’t think so.

"I already did Esquire and Rogue so I don’t know if it’s still a good idea to do FHM.

"Maybe if I’m forty, then maybe if I have kids at that time and if I want to prove a point, hopefully, I look good.

"Maybe by then but now is not the time for that."
