Miriam Defensor Santiago will not attend Heart Evangelista-Chiz Escudero wedding

Miriam Defensor Santiago on running for president: "I’m going to think about it..."

Miriam Santiago, the lady who introduced actress Heart Evangelista to Senator Chiz Escudero, will not be able to attend the couple’s wedding in Balesin Island.

The senator will not be able to go to the wedding because of her health.

At the launch of her book, Stupid is Forever, on December 3 at the National Book Store Trinoma, Miriam told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press, "’Di siguro ako makapunta. Sinabi ko na dahil ang kasal nila doon sa Balesin Island... nahirapan ako magbiyahe sa eroplano.

"And that’s why I have been in the country for nearly a year now.

"I haven’t any gone on any trip because it’s bad for my health."

In July this year, Miriam announced that she had Stage IV lung cancer.

She is presently taking the tablet version of chemotherapy which costs 2,000 pesos apiece.

RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT? It was previously reported that once she’s cured of cancer, she would consider running for higher office as this is her third term as senator.

Does the positive turnout at her book launch bolster her plans, assuming she beats cancer?

She quickly answered, "Yes and no.

"Yes, because it shows I have popular support."

"And no... because I am fully aware of the responsibilities that I will assume, and people seem to have very, very high expectations of me. It frightens even me.

"No person can meet all the expectations of these young people, especially those who came from school today whom I tried to reprimand, but who were faster than me in their repartee."

She is not closing her doors just yet, "I’m going to think about it.

"First of all, I have to get rid of the last few vestiges of cancer.

"I’m now in remission as they say, the cancer is no longer in its original, strong state. It’s now in a very weak state.

"And I’m very stable now. But still, I have to have, I have to be in the best of health before I’m going to be president of the Philippines because there are so many things that need to be done simultaneously."

When asked to react to statements made by political analyst Malou Tiquia who said, "Hindi kayo [referring to the senator] makaka-campaign with just pick-up lines."

Senator Miriam replied, "I don’t know who she is so I don’t think she’s worth the bother."

Back to the Heart-Chiz wedding, what is her advice to the couple?

Miriam said, "They have to be kind to each other."
