Christmas is usually spent with family but Kapuso actresses Ryza Cenon and Bettina Carlos have another way of celebrating this special occasion.

Ryza, who celebrated her 27thbirthday last December 21, said in a recent interview that it has become her personal tradition to prepare food and distribute them to homeless people around the metro.

“Pag-uwi ko, kakain ako ng kung anumang available na pagkain sa bahay,” said Ryza who started this good deed in 2008.

The StarStruck alumna said it a better way of celebrating Christmas since she’s living alone.

She related, “Hindi ako ’yong tipo na maghahanda.

This deed, according to Ryza, gives her a different kind of satisfaction.

PASSING THE TRADITION. Meanwhile, TV host-actress Bettina said she grew up celebrating her birthday, which falls on December 25, sharing her blessing to less fortunate people on streets.

“Usually kapag Pasko, I make my own effort to share the love in my own simple ways,” she related.

She’s now passing this tradition, which began when she was still a kid, to her young daughter.

Bettina said, “Noong nagkaanak ako, isinasama ko siya.

“As young as she is, I wanted to teach her about charity and others.

“So, kapag Christmas day talaga in the morning, we go around, we give away food na kasama siya para nakikita niya how blessed she is; and because we’re blessed, we can be a blessing to others also.”

She also stressed, “Ever since kasi noong bata ako, I grew up na not because it’s your birthday, you’ll receive.

"It’s your birthday and it’s Christmas, ikaw ang magbibigay.”

Bettina even joked that she continued this tradition because nobody would attend her birthday parties anyway.

"Hindi talaga ako nagpa-party dahil walang pupunta kasi busy sila, may sari-sarili silang pamilya. That’s my own part of celebration.”
