What happens when stars get starstruck?
Alden Richards tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview held earlier, January 13, at the press launch of Boardwalk in Luxent Hotel, Timog Avenue, Quezon City, that just like ordinary people, they also get dumbfounded.
"#THAT FANBOY MOMENT." A “super fan” of John Lloyd Cruz, the Kapuso actor finally met the Kapamilya star last December 16, at the Christmas party of their stylist Rex Atienza.
He recounts, “Alam naman ni Boss, si Rex, kung gaano ko ka-idol si John Lloyd. Talagang sabi ko, siya talaga, e.
“Nung nandun siya, pagpasok ko sa bar, I was like...I dunno if you can call that gay pero na-starstruck talaga ako, e—mga five seconds.
“And then talagang, siguro sa lahat ng artista—Anne Curtis, sa kanya ako nagpa-picture, and pangalawa, si John Lloyd.”
How did he approach the award-winning Star Magic talent?
Alden relates, “Talagang sabi ko, 'I don't usually ask celebrities’ picture,’ e kasi, medyo not my thing.
“Pero kung siya talaga, 'Boss, puwede ho ako pa-picture?'
“Iba, e. Iba talaga yung aura niya. Mabait, down to earth, madaling lapitan.”
Bam Abellon of YES! magazine asks, “Are you friends now?”
He replies, “Hindi pa naman!”
What if he gets to work with John Lloyd in the future?
A pause, before saying, “Sana,” since they are from different networks.
Then, with his enthusiasm taking over, Alden adds that if in case a movie project would be possible, “More than a dream come true!
“Siguro I couldn't ask for anything more kung ibigay sa 'kin yun.”
MEETING POPE FRANCIS? Another person he wishes to meet soon is the Pope, who will be arriving Manila on January 15.
“I've been talking to my ministry friends, yung mga friends ko sa religious side, asking if they can arrange a one on one, meet-up with the Pope.
"It's very impossible daw kasi a lot of our artists here, siyempre hindi lang naman ako ang artista rito, mas marami pang mas may konek...
“So it's really not possible kasi they want it to be as solemn as possible.
“The Pope really came here for the Filipinos, hindi naman para sa mga artista.
“Kasi baka masira yung schedule, mapagod si Pope, ganyan-ganyan…so they decided na huwag muna.”
But he will still take part in the Papal visit, “I'd definitely be in one of the masses…
"I can go naman to the mass pero to meet with him one on one?” Alden shakes his head.
ALL IS WELL WITH RITA. Lastly, we ask about his reported issue with Rita Iringan.
It can be recalled that last November, the young actress revealed having an M.U. (mutual understanding) with him.
Alden’s response is similar to his previous answer, “Parang I don't know, nagkaroon nga po ng issue na parang si Rita, na nasabi niyang parang we had something special before.
“Actually hindi naman po iba yun kasi halos naman po sa lahat, ganun ako, e.
“It was just she's just too happy that...on that moment, siguro masyado lang siyang happy nun nung nasabi niya kung pa'no kami on set.
“But even if you ask most of my leading ladies and yung mga girls na nakakatrabaho ko on set, I'm really like that.
“I make girls feel special so yun.”
Are they okay now?
“Wala naman, never nagkarun ng lamat or anything.
“Actually, they were scared na sabi sa akin, natatakot sila na baka ano daw, magalit ako.
“Sabi ko, 'Mommy [referring to Rita’s mom], ‘Things like that don't matter, don't count.’
“Nahihiya sila sa 'kin. Sabi ko, 'I don't mind. It's out of happiness that you [Rita] said that.’
“With that, naging calm na sila, everything went well. Wala na ang issue po.”
STILL LOVELESS. But when will be the right time for him to have a girlfriend?
“Yun nga, e. Hindi naman sa mataas ang standards ko...”
What exactly is he looking for?
“Gut feel? Wala pa yung gut feel, yung spark, yung connection.”
Did you ever feel that?
“Way back, five years ago. I know if the one is the one.
“Sabi nga ng people who have been advising me, 'If it doesn't feel right, it's not right. When in doubt, don't.'”
Good thing he has not been accused of being gay.
Smiling, he says, “I know, kasi ang number one notion pag walang girlfriend, gay agad, e…buti naman. Saka I really know myself...”
