Sandiganbayan junks Senator Bong Revilla’s motion to attend daughter’s graduation

An excerpt from Sandiganbayan First Division’s resolution on Senator Bong Revilla’s furlough plea: “To the mind of the Court, allowing accused Revilla to attend the graduation of his daughter will not only set a bad precedent but will likewise be regarded as a mockery of the administration of justice.”

"Under similar exceptional circumstances in the future, the Court will not hesitate to grant any motion that may be filed by accused Revilla and/or his co-accused to leave their detention cell.

"However, the Court is not inclined at this time to treat as exceptional circumstances the commencement exercises of his daughter in Muntinlupa City.

“To the mind of the Court, allowing accused Revilla to attend the graduation of his daughter will not only set a bad precedent but will likewise be regarded as a mockery of the administration of justice.”

Sabi pa sa resolusyon, “Being detention prisoners, just like all other detention prisoners, the accused cannot be allowed the full enjoyment of their rights, be it civil or political.”

“It is precisely for this reason [of special treatment] that the Fifth Division of this Honorable Court earned the ire of the public when it granted a similar motion filed by Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, and allowed the latter to attend the graduation ceremonies of his son, Julian Emilio Estrada.”
