Miriam Santiago: "If I become president sometime in the very near future, this country will be much better than it was before."

Miriam Santiago made her declaration to run for President last October 13, the day she launched her second book Stupid is Forevermore.

"I will run because I've already gotten over my bout with cancer and there's nothing left to do!" Senator Miriam Defensor Santoago quipped at the launch of her second book, Stupid is Forevermore.

Keeping things light and serious at the same time, she added, "I can apply for a job like the one I lost because of my cancer.

"But I think since I have served the government from the very beginning, I will end my career here."

And just before she started taking photos with everyone, Senator Miriam firmly stated, "And if I become president sometime in the very near future," which had the people who flocked the venue, National Bookstore Glorietta, cheering, "this country will be much better than it was before."

She wrapped up her declaration by connecting it with the cancer she just defeated, "Today, this country suffers from the malaise of plunder.

"Plunder is when you look at one person, and the other person looks at you, and you feel like eating each other up.

"It's like cancer.

"So we will try and make this country better simply by trusting in the Lord, trusting in yourself, trusting that you yourself will lead to God's great heaven, up where we know He lives."

LATEST BOOK. Stupid is Forevermore, the follow-up to Stupid is Forever, contains more jokes, one-liners, pick-up lines, and famous speeches made by the senator.

Last year, at the launch of her first book, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked what her top three pet peeves were.

She answered, "Maybe not the top three, just one: the Senate."

Miriam had that included in her second book, which doesn't just employ humor for humor's sake, but also tries to educate her readers.

Still on cancer, she remarked, "They are made of little invisible elements, and the worrying fact about cancer is that it tends to eat up his neighbor."

With her special brand of wit and comedy, she told the people who made it to her book launch last October 13, "So look to your left and to your right, just be careful!"

Everyone in the book store's first floor laughed.

She continued, "You can beat cancer, as long as you have the money. It's very, very expensive.

"Because I have great faith in our Lord, I was able to conquer cancer, in only about six months, the cancer tumors already died."

Then, she thanked all those who came.

"This is a wonderful world, you and I are here, when we are beset by disaster, by catastrophe, like what happened to me, we have friends to help us and pray for us."

She continued, "I have received thousands of your cards, and I am very grateful to each one of you."

And if she were to describe what she was feeling then, "The title of my emotion is to kiss you forevermore."
