Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub’s talent has caught the attention of Broadway producer Shea Arender.
The American singer-songwriter wants to talk to Maine, meet her manager, and discuss the prospect of coming up with a musical starring the TV sweetheart.
Shea checked out Maine’s Dubsmash clips when a friend from California told him about her.
“I can’t help but laugh constantly watching those clips [from Eat Bulaga!].
"I don’t understand everything, but the facial expression alone is amazing," he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a presscon on Monday, October 19, at Alab Restaurant in Quezon City.
Shea recalls marvelling at Maine’s versatility and passion in “putting smiles on everyone’s faces.”
“One of the most important things is to bring joy and make people happy, and she’s doing a fantastic job!”’
So impressed is Shea with Maine he wants to linger in the Philippines to explore the possibility of producing a musical just for the other half of the AlDub (Alden Richards-Yaya Dub/Maine Mendoza) love team.
“I want to have a meeting with people managing Maine’s career.
“It’s not commonly done here—a Broadway musical based on a TV show,” Shea explains.
He figures it would be sheer fun to capture Maine’s natural humor on stage, and not just in front of the camera, which is what’s happening now.
That’s not all. Shea wants to act alongside Maine as well.
“I want to keep this open. There’s so much talent here, so many options.
"I see myself recording doing an acting project with her," he reveals.
Over at the Kapamilya camp, Shea singles out KC Concepcion for her talent, not just in singing, but performing in general.
“I’m interested to meet KC.
"There’s so much options for entertainers here. I just want to explore."
ARNEL PINEDA FAN. Another Pinoy talent Shea takes his hat off to is Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda.
“I’m a big Journey fan,” Shea admits.
Hearing Arnel’s story of struggle and triumph drove Shea to research on the Filipino singer. And the American performer was not disappointed.
“It’s very inspiring. It opened my eyes to the Philippines.”
Shea knows he’s not seen even half of what Filipino musical talent is all about.
“You guys are very impressive to watch. It’s the passion and the energy that attracted me.”
As a performer himself, Shea wants to “be in the middle of all that passion and energy.”
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL PLANS. Shea, whose show, Prince of Christmas, is among the Top 5 holiday shows in Broadway, has a couple of personal and professional plans while he’s in Manila.
“My agents and I are planning to accept a Valentine show in Manila come 2016.
"But I can’t wait that long to see for myself the beautiful countryside and the colors of Manila."
It’s a win-win situation.
Filipino talents take the spotlight in shows Shea plans to produce for them.
The talented producer-performer, on the other hand, will have his fill of the country’s best tourist destinations.
It’s business with pleasure.
