Boy Abunda, who now has a PhD, can choose to add "professor" to his resume.

“Totoo yun kaya tuwang-tuwa ako nung marinig ko si Shine… she’s back to school, wow!

Nakakatuwa talaga.”

READY FOR POLITICS.

“If it happens, it will happen, handa ako.

“But if it doesn’t happen, I’m okay, hindi ako naglalaway sa pulitika.

“You will know when you need it, you will know if you want to do it.

“Plano ko talaga, but not this semester.

“But eventually, I really want to teach.

“Puwede ako Social Development, puwede ako Communications, which is my Master’s.”

Sagot dito ng Kapamilya TV host, “Siguro in the future, I want to take up more seminars on Diplomacy.”

Bakit?

“Wala lang,” kibit balikat niya.

DISSERTATION.

Puwede raw niya itong i-publish.

“Yeah, oo, ang dissertation ng kahit kanino, you can read it.

“Pero property ng school yun, but I can talk to the school and I can rewrite in a way that I can publish a book.

“You will not present it in dissertation form, it has to be in formal style.

“Siguro if I did this at another time, I wouldn’t have the lakas ng loob, oo, kasi siguro celebrity ako.

“In God’s perfect time…”

“Pero at the end of the exercise, tinanggap ko yung kanyang suggestion.

“Sabi ko, ‘If you are happy with qualitative news study, I’m okay.

“‘I just wanted to go in phenomenological methodology because I wanted to capture live experiences of my respondents.'

“But if my panel thinks otherwise, I am okay.’

“Talagang humbled ka, you have to be open.”

“May researchers ka, you can’t do it alone dahil mahihimatay ka.

“But you have to write your own dissertation by yourself.

“Sinabi ng aking adviser, ‘Ang hirap ng defense mo pero hindi ka umatras kahit ilang sandali because you know your dissertation at your fingertips.’

“Umabot ng 260 pages ang dissertation ko.

“Hindi naman ‘yan katulad ng ano na may A, B, C, everything was difficult.

“You didn’t know what was coming, and these are four, five the most brilliant academicians.

“They are Dr. Lourdes Catral, you have to be a doctor to be in the panel, Dr. Meneses, Dr. Mon Sarmiento, Dr. Kiko Benitez, and my adviser, Dr. Lito Manalili.”

Lahat sila PWU deans?

“Iba-iba, may karapatan ka na mangumbida, like si Dr. Manalii, one of the most venerable UP Soc Dev [University of the Philippines Social Development] professor emeritus.

“Dr. Benitez is the president of the Philippine Women’s University, hindi ito ordinaryong panel.

“Si Dr. Catral is the dean of Home Economics ba or something?

“Si Dr. Mon Sarmiento from a provincial university, state university.”

“So, umuupo ka doon, wala kang ideya.”
