Gary Granada on libel case filed against him by GMA Network: "I just learned tha[t] the CA [Court of Appeals] also dismissed the appeal, but I would not be surprised if GMA elevates it to the SC for good measure. That means nothing to a multi-billion corporation but is quite an inconvenience to an ordinary musician like myself."

Pahayag ni Gary, “Years ago I was sued for libel by GMA Network for pointing out that their people took advantage of a study we have submitted by rejecting it but employing our ideas.

“The RTC dismissed it, but they were not content and escalated the case.

“I just learned tha[t] the CA also dismissed the appeal, but I would not be surprised if GMA elevates it to the SC for good measure.

“That means nothing to a multi-billion corporation but is quite an inconvenience to an ordinary musician like myself.”

Aniya, “I am fortunate to have a competent and diligent law firm that does it on friendly terms,” saad ni Gary.

“Still there are expenses and I need to face some mundane financial obligations over some petty copyright case.”

Dugtong pa ni Gary, “Hence the need to part with a part of my soul.”

LESSONS LEARNED.

Lahad niya, “FILSCAP [Filipino Society of Singers, Composers, Authors, and Publishers], my former society, would not defend me in court much less hale a prominent member to court for infringement.

“I don't blame them, that's the nature of humans, so I eventually politely resigned to keep the peace.”

Patuloy niya, "Interestingly, I raised hell to help promote the rights of composers, but ironically even my musician friends didn't openly take my side on the matter.

"Some even criticized me for speaking out.

"Apparently I made a mistake. I have since changed my views and now advise that it would be infinitely better for composers to not complain when such things happen.

"Still I console myself with telling myself, Oh well, they're not huge but at least I have anarchist balls."

Sa huli ay may parinig si Gary sa GMA Network at sa dating kinabibilingang organisasyon na Filipino Society of Singers, Composers, Authors, and Publishers o FILSCAP.

Sabi pa niya, "In fairness FILSCAP suspended GMA for sometime but could not manage to arrange a settlement.

"Now that I am resigned, I think they now have a happier relationship. That's perfectly understandable. When you're over 50, nothing surprises you anymore about humans."
