Former Kapamilya actor Derek Ramsay said he is glad to be on good terms with ABS-CBN bosses years after his big switch to TV5.
In YES! Magazine’s May 2017 cover story, Derek lengthily spoke about what he felt when he was tapped to do the movie Ex With Benefits, which was produced by the ABS-CBN film company, Star Cinema.
“Marami akong tinik na natanggal sa puso ko no’ng pinayagan na ako ulit mag-movie sa Star Cinema. Pinayagan na akong pumasok ulit sa ABS, to walk those halls again…
“Because that’s where I started.”
Correcting himself, Derek added, “I started sa Eat Bulaga! But I was really given the break sa ABS-CBN.”
The 40-year-old Kapatid actor gave credit to his former home network for making him a household name.
"They’re a big part of how I became Derek Ramsay.
"Respeto ko talaga sa Channel 2 for giving me that chance to show my skills and talent in this field."
It can be recalled that Derek was supposed to headline Star Cinema’s The Mistress opposite Bea Alonzo, but he wasn’t able to do the project because he transferred to TV5 in April 2012.
It was only in 2015 when Derek starred in Ex With Benefits opposite Coleen Garcia that he was able to step foot in the ABS-CBN compound again.
“You know, walking those hallways again, parang tumaas ‘yong balahibo ko. And being able to guest in [the shows of] Boy Abunda, Vice Ganda, it was a nice feeling.”
On hindsight, Derek maintained that he has no regrets about his decision to transfer to TV5, because it allowed him to pursue a career in showbiz while being active in sports at the same time.
“I have no regrets with the move that I made.
“If I stayed at Channel 2, would I be more famous or popular? Yes, no doubt.
“I’d probably have more Instagram followers, Twitter followers.
“But that’s not how I wanna live my life, you know. I wanna fulfill the different things that I’m passionate about.
“And with that move, I was able to do that.”
Derek remains an exclusive artist of TV5 until his network contract expires in April 2018.
But according to Derek, he is allowed to do movies with ABS-CBN and other film companies.
This year, Derek is slated to do four movie projects, which includes a film opposite a top ABS-CBN leading lady for Star Cinema.
