Barbie Forteza was caught by surprise when she was named THE PEP LIST Editors’ Choice Female Comedy Star of the Year.
She won for her performance in GMA Network’s weekly comedy-variety show, Sunday PinaSaya (SPS).
Barbie earned rave reviews for her impressive impersonation of Kris Aquino through the character "Kissy."
At the SPS dressing room yesterday, September 17, the editorial staff of PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) visited the 20-year-old Kapuso actress-TV host in the guise of interviewing her about her latest movie project.
But right after the short interview, PEP associate editor Rommel Llanes announced that Barbie had won Female Comedy Star in THE PEP LIST Year 4, and handed her the trophy.
An overjoyed Barbie exclaimed, “Ay, nakakaloka! May ganito pala! Maraming salamat!
“Hindi niyo ako sinabihan. Sana nag-glitters ako ngayon! Oh my God!
“Inaalay ko po ito sa ating Comedy Queen, Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas! Papunta na po ako, charot!”
Looking a bit teary-eyed, Barbie thanked PEP for the recognition.
“Hindi ko siya inaasahan, maraming-maraming salamat po sa PEP, and of course sa SPS, ang nagbukas ng pinto sa aking comedy career. And of course, sa GMA din!”
SPS FAMILY. During SPS’s live episode yesterday, Barbie was personally congratulated by her SPS family, including co-hosts Ai-Ai, Marian Rivera, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and Alden Richards.
While Barbie is better known for her dramatic portrayals in Kapuso teleseryes, Marian pointed out, "Sa totoong buhay, totoo namang komedyante ka. So, congratulations!"
Then, the Kapuso Primetime Queen teasingly added, "Tsaka, ahem, 'andiyan si Jak!"
Marian was referring to Barbie's rumored boyfriend Jak Roberto, who is a semi-regular host in SPS.
Below is a short video clip from SPS:
Barbie bested the following for the Comedy Actress of the Year award: Ai-Ai delas Alas (Sunday Pinasaya, Hay Bahay), Angelica Panganiban (Banana Sundae), Eugene Domingo (Dear Uge), and Jaclyn Jose (A1 Ko Sa’yo).
The other winners of THE PEP LIST Year 4, for both the PEPsters' Choice and Editors' Choice categories, will be announced in the coming days.
The winners in the PEPsters' Choice category were chosen by PEP readers by online voting, while the winners in the Editors' Choice category were chosen by the PEP editorial team.
