Ilang celebrities ang hayagang sumalungat sa posisyon ng veteran TV host-comedian na si Joey de Leon tungkol sa depression.

Naging trending topic ang pangalan ni Joey pagkatapos niyang sabihin on national television na "gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao" ang depression.

Sinabi ito ni Joey sa "Juan For All, All For Juan" segment ng Kapuso noontime show na Eat Bulaga!, kahapon, October 5.

Nagsimula ito nang sabihin ng "Sugod Bahay" winner na na-diagnose ang kanyang ina na may "depression."

Kinontra ito ni Joey at sinabing, “Yung depression, gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao 'yan. Gawa lang nila sa sarili nila.”

Pero nagsalita ang co-host ni Joey na si Maine Mendoza at sinabing hindi biro ang depression.

Sabi ng 22-year-old star, "Hindi siya joke. Kasi maraming nakakaranas nun, lalo na sa mga kabataan.

"Kaya dapat, kung mayroong nakakaranas ng ganun, bigyan natin ng suporta."

Sinang-ayunan naman ito ng ka-love team ni Maine na si Alden Richards.

Sinabi ng 25-year-old old Kapuso actor na kailangan ng "moral support" ng mga taong nakararanas ng depression.

Ngunit binara sila ni Joey at sinabing, “Hindi, huwag niyo suportahan, gawa-gawa lang niya yun.”

Sabi pa ng 70-year-old TV host-comedian tungkol sa depression, “Wala, nagpapasosyal lang.

"Kapag mayaman, depression. Kapag mahirap, wala, wala kang pag-asa sa buhay."

Dahil dito ay umani ng batikos mula sa netizens si Joey.

Tweet ng 27-anyos na anak nina dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada at Laarni Enriquez, “I went through it too and it’s as real as it gets.

“Jokes might help people suffering from depression, but their situation surely isn’t one.”

Si Jake ay naging bahagi ng "Kalyeserye" ng Eat Bulaga!, kung saan gumanap siya bilang kaklase ni Yaya Dub (Maine).

JASMINE CURTIS-SMITH. Ito ang matapang na tweet ni Jasmine Curtis-Smith, 23: “Don’t talk about mental health if you don’t know jack about it. Support. Love. Care. Don’t ignore. Embrace and guide.

MARIEL DE LEON. May kahalo namang pasaring kay Joey ang tweet ng beauty queen na si Mariel de Leon, anak nina Christopher de Leon at Sandy Andolong.

Aniya, “Depression isn’t a joke. Same last name, but thank God we’re not related. Ew.

“Shame on him and people who think like him.”

Sa hiwalay niyang tweet, sinabi ng 23-year-old beauty queen na halos 800 katao ang namamatay kada taon dahil sa suicide. 

Sa isinagawang pag-aaral, natukoy na depression ang isa sa mga dahilan ng pagkakaroon ng suicidal tendency ng ibang tao. 

"If you aren’t angry about what he said, what kind of human are you? Where is your heart?" hamon ng dalaga. 

BELA PADILLA. Sunud-sunod naman ang tweets ni Bela Padilla at nakipagsagutan pa sa netizens.

Ayon sa 26-year-old actress, seryoso ang depression at totoo itong nangyayari.

Pero hindi na raw kailangang batikusin pa si Joey sa sinabi nito.

Paglilinaw ni Bela, “People see what they choose to see. Everything I said is clear. He was wrong but correcting him through shame is wrong too.”


Si Bela ang nagsulat ng screenplay ng Piolo Pascual-Toni Gonzaga movie na Last Night, na tumatalakay sa suicide.

KHALIL RAMOS. Tweet naman ng Kapamilya actor-singer na si Khalil Ramos: “Depression is no joke. Depression is real. Awareness is what we need to end potentially dangerous remarks and comments about it.”

BIANCA GONZALEZ. Ayon naman sa ABS-CBN host na si Bianca Gonzalez, dahil sa isyu ay napag-uusapan ngayon ang mental health.

Sabi niya, “Mukhang ito na ang panahon that mental health issues get the attention and the awareness campaign that it needs here.

JODI STA. MARIA. Pahayag naman ng Kapamilya actress na si Jodi Sta. Maria: “Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it is not real. Never ever mock a pain you haven't endured.”

IC MENDOZA. Pinuri naman ni IC Mendoza si Maine Mendoza dahil sa paninindigan nito tungkol sa isyu.

“She stood her ground against those narrow minds that opt to trivialize serious topcis that they don’t understand, all for the sake of delivering a shitty punchline,” bahagi ng mensahe ni IC.
