Cole Sprouse surprised Filipino fans with his choice of places to visit for his first Manila tour.
Best known as Jughead in Netflix’s popular American teen drama series Riverdale, Cole was spotted crossing a street somewhere in the vicinity of Lucky Chinatown mall in Binondo yesterday, April 19.
Cole, who was wearing a white sleeveless top and jeans, even made a friendly salute to the motorists just as he was crossing the street.
Seen below is a video of the chance encounter with the Riverdale star posted by a netizen via Facebook:
Speaking to entertainment reporters, the 25-year-old American actor confessed that he’s a “huge foodie” and he wanted to have an authentic “local experience” in Manila as much as possible.
Cole mentioned going to a "seafood market" where he consumed "unholy amounts of food."
“They’ve been just paying me in food. So, it’s great, yeah... that was part of the agreement.
"I come over for free as long as they give me the best food around. It’s fantastic!”
Cole said he also enjoyed riding the jeepney, an affordable and common means of public transport in Manila.
“Yeah, I was riding at the back of a jeepney. I was trying to find something I needed to do.
“And that the air smells so good, the city in high speeds... that was great.
“We travelled all around the city yesterday.”
Cole was officially launched as Bench’s newest celebrity endorser at a mediacon held at the Rizal Ballroom of Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City earlier today, April 20.
FILIPINO HOSPITALITY. Cole expressed appreciation for the "extremely warm" welcome from the Filipinos that he met everywhere he went.
“I think for me, when I travel, I try to get as much of the local experience as possible.
“Like what you have mentioned, I try to stay away from the super curated, super polished areas.
“So, everywhere I walked, we were greeted by a kind of warmth and hospitality that you hope for as someone who travels. You kinda get lucky when you walk into it.
“Mixed with the amazing food and the nice warm weather, it’s been a great experience.”
He said the Philippines was so unlike the last place that he and his dad Matthew Sprouse had been to.
Cole wondered, why for a tropical country, a lot of the people he bumped into here kept noticing his white tank top.
Smiling, he said, "I didn't realize wearing a white tank top is not something most people do.
"As I walked around the city, for some reason, everyone commented on the tank top. Is it not a normal attire?"
Event host Sam Oh told Cole that people were just probably tickled to see much of his toned physique.
To which, he simply replied, "Right, my ankles were out, really romantic wear."
PH BEACHES. Cole added that he would have loved to hit the beaches in the Philippines, but his short visit wouldn't permit it.
"Unfortunately, I'm forgetting the name, but my original plan was to travel on the islands and be able to see some of the beaches and lounge at the beach for a little.
"There's that mythical, spiritual island..."
When someone mentioned Siquijor, Cole said, "That's the one that I would really love to visit."
Located in the Central Visayas region, the province of Siquijor is famous for its pristine beaches as well as its folklore about mythical creatures.
But Cole said that he would have been up for that thrilling kind of adventure.
Beaming, he quipped, "Yeah, I'm the ghost here. I will scare the other ghosts, that's the idea."
