Visayan singer and acclaimed OPM artist Dulce warns against the dangers of the common usage of the Visayan term "habal-habal," which has sexual connotations, but has since become a commonly-used term in the Pinoy vocabulary. She laments, "Many have become so desensitized in using words with sexual connotations."

Kinikilabutan si Dulce kapag naririnig niya ang salitang “habal-habal,” lalo na sa TV.

Himutok ng veteran Cebuana singer sa Facebook nitong nakaraang Abril 20, Biyernes nang gabi, “I wonder who started this in the Visayas.

“I tried talking to some people to change it to 'angkas-angkas,' which is a more proper word to use.

“Many have become so desensitized in using words with sexual connotations.”

Bilang taal na Tagalog, hindi namin alam ang ibig sabihin ng “habal-habal” para sa mga Bisaya.

Nag-PM kami kay Dulce at ang kanyang sabi, “Better if I will explain it to you in person.

“Kasi, medyo complicated siyang ikuwento.

“But to answer muna your question, it’s the sex act of animals. Kinukubabawan. Dog-style.

“Literally, it’s kant*t-kant*t*n.

“Di ba, ang pangit???!!! Hahahahaha, sorry...”

Tanggap ni Dulce masabihan man siyang OA sa usaping ito, dahil ito ang kanyang damdamin.

THE POWER OF WORDS. Bilang born-again Christian, naniniwala si Dulce na makapangyarihan ang mga salita, base sa Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Paliwanag ni Dulce, “I was very vocal about it especially in Cebu, and I made mention of this Biblical reminder lalo pa’t laging may rape na nangyayari sa mga damuhang lugar sa bukid where this so-called habal-habal goes.

“The mere mention of the word sends the wrong message, kasi may nao-open sa mind ng nakakarinig.

“Once you mention about sex, it creates something. May arousal.”

POSSIBLE ORIGIN OF COMMON USAGE. Pakiwari ni Dulce, maaaring nagsimula ang salitang “habal-habal” sa mga nagmu-motor pabundok sa Cebu province.

Pagpapatuloy ng singer, “Iyong motor, dinadagdagan ng bamboo o kahoy para mas marami ang nakaangkas na pasahero. Like, tinuhog.

“Kaya siguro inulit iyong word na ‘habal,’ at iyong ‘habal-habal’ means parang ganyan, as if... tuhug-tuhog, dugtung-dugtong, patung-patong, ganyan-ganyan.

“Sinabihan ko si Mel Tiangco about this when she read it over 24 Oras mga three years ago.

“Ang taas ng tono ni Mel pag nagsasalita, di ba, and when I told her the meaning, she gushed, 'YAIIIKKKSSS!'

“'Tapos, one time, sa Showtime, may contestant na anak ng habal-habal driver.

“Mga 15 minutes yata na kausap ni Vice Ganda. Minessage ko si Amy Perez about the meaning of the word. She replied, ‘Sige, sis, I will inform the writers.’

“I believe, binigyang-halaga nila ang thoughts ko about it kaya mukhang iniiwasan na nilang gamitin iyon.
