Shamcey Supsup recalls she had an easier time competing for the Miss Universe crown in Brazil in 2011 because internet was scarce in the country. "I was focused on the competition and not what… anong sinasabi ng mga tao sa internet; walang pressure," she said.

Sambit niya, “Really? Why not, why not?

“Masyado sila sigurong nag-enjoy last time, so why not?”

Sabi naman ni Shamcey, “We couldn’t say, di ba, there are times naman na the home court wins?

“I think there’s a truth behind that dahil, siyempre, ayaw mo namang sabihin na there’s favoritism and all.

“Pag dito kasi, the time, it’s morning, iba yung… kumbaga puyat yung mga tao and then parang hiwa-hiwalay.

“Parang the night before yung red carpet, 'tapos morning yung pageant, 'tapos gabi yung victory.

“So, yung excitement, parang medyo nadi-diminish.

“Tsaka ang aga nun, like kami, dun kami sa gitna, so kailangan before mag-close yung stage nandun na kami.

“Parang 6:30 [a.m.] dapat andun na, so ano’ng time ka magigising?

“Especially when I was in Brazil, hindi free ang wi-fi, so minsan lang ako makapag-internet.

“I was focused on the competition and not what… anong sinasabi ng mga tao sa internet; walang pressure.

STEPPING STONE.

Ayon kay Shamcey, “Ako sa Binibini, I always advise the girls that you shouldn’t join pageants just for the sake of winning and getting a crown or getting famous.

“There should be a reason why you’re doing something like this, it’s a stepping stone to something more.

“If you have an advocacy, you wanna be a voice about something, you wanna stand up for something, then use that voice.

“Or if you wanna pursue a career in show business, then be a good actress, be a great actress, di ba?

“So, parang being a beauty queen opens a lot of doors for you, and for me it has changed my life.

“I never imagined na magkakaroon ako ng ganitong klaseng buhay, and thanks to being a beauty queen.

“And I owe it to Binibining Pilipinas and to Miss Universe for giving me that confidence.

“Sabi ko nga, hindi lang as a beauty queen, in everything that you do, you have to be confident.

“Like, even though you feel inadequate, whenever you pursue something, lagi kang dapat, ikaw mismo confident ka na.

HANDS-ON MOM.
