Actor Robin Padilla commends film and TV director Joyce Bernal for waiving her professional fee for directing President Rodrigo Duterte's third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Pres. Duterte is scheduled to deliver his speech at the Plenary Session Hall of the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Batasan Hills, Quezon City on Monday, July 23.
Robin uploaded the photo of the director on Instagram and wrote, "Kapag para sa INANGBAYAN hindi ka dapat BINABAYARAN!!!!!
"Malalim na pagpupugay sa iyo binibining Joyce Bernal isa kang halimbawa at ilaw sa lahat sa aming nasa Industriya at rebolusyon! Mabuhay ka at ang ating panata!
"When these teachings shall have been propagated and the glorious sun of freedom begins to shine on these poor islands to enlighten a united race and people, then all the loves lost, all the struggle and sacrifices shall not have been in vain"- ika 14 na bilang sa kartilya ng Katipunan."
In an interview with Unang Hirit's Unang Balita, Direk Joyce said that she feels privileged for having been tapped to direct the president's SONA.
She said, "Very honored ako.
"Hindi ito pagdi-direk ng rom-com.
"Hindi ito pagdidirek ng traffic.
"Pagdidirek ito ng SONA. May sasabihin ang ating ama para sa atin, para sa Pilipino."
In an interview with CNN Philippines and other members of the press last July 18, Direk Joyce confirmed that she waived her talent fee for the project.
The 50-year-old director explained, "Tinawag po ako e bilang mamamayan so, ok po.
"At saka presidente natin siya and para din po sa mga tao ‘to, sa mga kababayan natin, para sa kapwa ko Pinoy,”
She added, "Kailangan ba magpabayad doon? Hindi ako magpapabayad doon. Ibibigay ko yun."
Award-winning director Brillante Mendoza directed the president's first two SONAs.
According to reports, the Ma 'Rosa director also didn't receive any payment for directing the president's first two SONAs.
