Pinay diplomat in the UN tests positive for coronavirus

The United Nations records its first confirmed coronavirus case in New York.

A female diplomat from the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) on March 12, 2020.

Acting Philippine Ambassador Kira D. Azucena says, in a statement released the same day, that the Philippine Center in New York is currently on lockdown and its employees have been advised to self-quarantine and to seek medical attention should they develop symptoms.

Futhermore, the statement says the infected diplomat is "currently isolated" and "is in good condition."

CNN further reports that the Philippine delegate last visited the United Nations on Monday, March 9. She met with two other delegates from another mission and stayed in one meeting room. Her visit lasted 30 minutes.

The Filipino delegate initially tested positive for flu and was prescribed Tamiflu. She later received information that she is positive for COVID-19.
