(SPOT.ph) It's not surprising that the Philippines get a lot of international attention on a daily basis.

We have beautiful islands winning the hearts of foreigners, Filipino talents taking the international theater and music scene by storm, and local cuisine piquing the interest of chefs worldwide.

Sometimes, we do earn recognition for our not-so-proud moments, such as in a post by Consul General Dirk Janssen of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco.

"No hay mejor manera de dejar claro a los peatones que no importan," he said in a tweet on June 26, with a photo of the very recognizable Kamuning Footbridge along EDSA.

These Spanish words translate to: "There is no better way to make it clear to pedestrians that they don't matter."

It has since garnered almost 4,000 likes, and it can't get any clearer than that.

Statistician Peter Cayton reshared Janssen's post with his own comment: "This is gaining international attention. Transport policymakers in the Philippines are heartless and have no regard for pedestrian and commuter rights, much less for human rights."

Back in November 2018, this extremely high footbridge soaring above EDSA past the GMA - Kamuning Station drew flak for...well, being extremely high.

Not to mention that the Metro Manila Development Authority project cost a whopping P10 million.

The 10-meter height, according to spokesperson Celine Pialogo, was necessary to make it safe for pedestrians to cross the elevated footbridge. She also explained that it was constructed that way to make way for the MRT power lines underneath.

In 2019, a couple of seasoned hikers pretended that the Kamuning Footbridge is another "summit" to conquer. They called it "Mt. Kamuning" and their "hiking" photos and videos posted by photographer Albert Labrador have gone viral.
