During the formal launch of Diether Ocampo’s newest project—K.I.D.S. Foundation, a group that aims to help underprivileged kids through scholarship grants, and fund-raising activities—on November 20, he was quick to clarify that the organization is not meant to further any alleged political plans.
Diet, as he is fondly known, has been offered to run as Bacoor vice-mayor for the 2007 elections. “Mga taga-Bacoor din [ang nagsasabi na tumakbo ako],” he said.
Though there’s a growing number of actor-turned-politicians, Diet doesn’t express interest in joining the bandwagon.
“Wala,” he said bluntly. “I think hindi kailangan ng position sa gobyerno para lang makatulong.”
Diet’s fiancé Kristine Hermosa agreed: “[Si Diet] pa rin naman e. Siya pa rin naman magde-decide. Pero para lang sakin nasa showbiz na kami. Parang okay na ‘to ‘tapos nandiyan naman ‘yong K.I.D.S. Foundation. Meron kaming pagtutuunan ng oras namin.”
